So I am gonna take SAT on Dec 5 for the 2nd and last time. The first time I got 1930 (CR:570, M:700, W:660).For maths, I finished AP Calc BC in junior year with a 5 on AP exam but still I can't get perfect score or at least a decent score. For writing and reading, I am not expecting much since I am an international student. I got 109/120 on TOEFL ibt with a 29/30 on writing section and 26/30 on reading (2 years ago I got 28/30). Plus, I was a semi finalist of a regional essay contest. Thus, I truly believe that SAT does not reflect my ability. However, I still have to do well on it to get into schools that I want to.

Do you guys have any tips on how can I improve my score for each section ? I am aiming for around 650 on CR, 750-800 on Math, and around 700 for Writing.

Buy an SAT prep book and spend 3 hours each weekend going over it. Here are some helpful tips for CR:

Don’t zone out. Read the questions first if you need to so you can pick up the answers as you go. It’s a waste of time to read the passage and then have to re-read it to get the answers.

Writing:
Check carefully for sentences that have “they” in it but are only referring to one person. Any ambiguous references automatically make a sentence wrong.

Math:
Math doesn’t go higher than Algebra 2, so you need to work on your fundamentals.

In math (the one section I’m qualified to help anyone in) most people know the concepts and how to solve the problems. They throw in “tricks” that will catch you off guard if you don’t read the question carefully. By simply slowing down on the reading, I improved from a 710 to an 800. As long as you’re confident in your speed, just take a breath and read any possibly tricky questions over again, making sure you understand it. Look for words like including and inclusive. Those tend to be tricky.
