Please,please help. I wasted my whole entire day on the computer doing random things on social sites when I could have been studying. I have waisted this whole day so far doing absolutely nothing! It makes me so angry that I waste so much time! Someone please give me tips on how i can get off of my *** and start doing something productive.
Just do it!
Close your FB account.
When I have tasks to do that I’m putting off or are boring, I’ll set the timer and do it in chunks of time 30-45 minutes then reward myself with a break.
There are apps you can put on your computer that will lock your access to do other stuff like facebook, etc. for a set period of time. One of my kids used to do that.
@doschicos thanks for the advice hey cuantos tienes?
@ZBlue17 Very,very helpful. (sarcasm}
You know the answer to the question. You may have to turn off your social media and set goals for task completion , then reward yourself with say 30 minutes on your social media and no more. Using social media all the time can be like an addiction, you may need to use similar strategies as people use to quit other addictions.
Practice saying “And do you want fries with that” should help motivate you.
Seriously, join or form a study group. Peer pressure is a great motivator. It doesn’t mean that all your studying is in the group, it can be that you will meet for a hour late in the afternoon to go over the work to make sure everyone understands it. Or something along those lines. You wouldn’t want to let your group down. You may still want to take breaks, but limit them as NorthernMom61 says.
Leave your house and go to the library all day.
Get off of this website.
You could also think of your future career selling shoes:-) I am also a terrible time waster, but when I need to get something done, I find that the computer, iPad, cellphone or whatever needs to be in a place where I am not. Get away from the technology and set a timer for 45 minutes. You will be amazed at how quickly that time goes. Reward yourself with 5 minutes to get a snack, check yiur messages, then back to work. Good luck.
(1) Get off the computer. Put away the phone. I’m sure you have studying that can be done using pen and paper, which is more effective anyway.
(2) Use the pomodoro method. Set a timer for 25 minutes, and work for that period. 5 minute break. Do that 4 times and you’ll have done (nearly) 2 hours of work. Then take a longer 20 minute break. Do that 3 times a day and you’ll be ahead of the game.
If your computing addiction is really serious, you may want to buy an old-fashioned stopwatch or timer so you don’t have to use your phone.
Second vote. Go to the library and leave your phone at home. It’s possible to be out of immediate touch for a few hours.
If this is hard, you can also talk to a counselor who can give you a program to follow . Have you ever been diagnosed with ADHD? Not suggesting you have it but this kind of problem can sometimes be related to it.
I am only suggesting the above because others have wisely suggested common sense things to try. My own kids go to the library to work a lot.
@compmom No, I don’t have adhd. Im just a lazy person and procrastinate. Focusing is not my problem whenever i start something, I am able to focus on it and not get distracted. People with adhd from my knowledge, get distracted easily when doing things. My case is that I’m lazy and procrastinate.
@chzbrgr Thank you. I think I need to get off this site too lol.
@GMTplus7 Thats a good idea.
@ultraviolet56 Go to the library all day?
Why not? Well, at least for a few hours. How do you think people study in certain big universities where books can’t be removed from the libraries?
@BigDreams12 lol I’ve found that that’s what works best for me. If you immerse yourself in a quiet environment where everyone else is studying/working too, it’s easier to concentrate and have the motivation to work efficiently for longer periods of time.
