Hey guys, so I'm a junior and I've kinda done track since freshman year. I say kind of, because in freshman year I had swimming practice too, so sometimes I couldn't go to meets. Since then, I quit swimming. Sophomore year, I had depression (actually diagnosed) and still couldn't participate much in meets.

I have run the 400m, 800m, and 400m relay. My 400m time is 1:00:00 and 800m is 2:28:09. This is about d3 level, so I am told. However, given I'm a junior and don't have significant meet experience, is it possible to be recruited for D3?

I also kind of want to do hurdles...

Yeah, that pretty much sums everything up :)

PS - your lack of experience may help your recruiting … you’ve achieved those times with limited work which leaves the possibility of a lot of improvement … (as opposed to someone with the same times who has run a ton all their life; they may have already reached their potential)

Many D3 WT&F schools don’t recruite since there is no scholarship money. You simply join the team and as long as you show up and practice you’re on the team.

Recruited, maybe not, but they will certainly take you! Go online to the colleges you’re looking at and fill out the prospective student athlete survey. The coach/staff will start sending you information.

Not having competed in meets mean any schools that try to ‘recruit’ athletes may not find you because they oftentimes search meet databases like athletic.net or specific annual meets. However, if you demonstrate interest they’ll start talking to you.

FYI - you do not need to be recruited or even in contact with the coach prior to acceptance. You can walk-on during the school year.
