Hey, anyone transfers in here? If so, did any of you guys get in? I'm still waiting. It's like senior year all over again lol.

I got in through MassTransfer. I had a 3.4 & am graduating w/ an associates. That seemed to do the trick, although they had been concerned about my math classes. I called them left a message and the transfer counselor called me back, talked to me and told me she was accepting me. Although I still have not gotten a formal letter…

If you haven’t heard from them still give them a call and leave a message…they’ll call you back in about a week(but you might get your letter before they call lol). Good Luck!

I transfered in from a community college. I didn’t wait to finish with the mass transfer block though. I think i heard early only because I was accepted for Fall 2011 and deferred until this year though.

are you planning on living in dorms/on campus or off campus?

I want to live on campus. I know most transfer students don’t, especially since I’m an “older” student, but I still want to be on campus.

What about you?

I didn’t apply for housing because I’m ‘older’ also (24)…I figured that it would be a pain to live with a bunch of freshman asking me to buy them beer and I would get irritated pretty quickly with all that. I now know there are different sorts of dorms you can live in, like RAPS. But I didn’t apply for it and I think its probably a little late now. Even if I did get something, its probably not going to be the type of dorm I’d want to live in anyway. So as much as would’ve liked to have the experience of living on campus, at this point I think I don’t even have the patience for it. Plus I like being able to have a few beers @ home without worrying that someones gonna catch me like I’m 16 again :-O!

So now I’m looking for roommates which is sorta difficult since I know no one out there. Makes me reconsider my choice to live off campus.

I don’t think it is too late. I have not even applied for housing. I told them I wanted housing, but nothing official yet. I had spoken with them before about not wanting to live with the 18 year old freshmen. They said it would not be a problem. There is an area called Sylvan that has Suite Style dorms. I am also not a big partier, so would want one of the quieter dorms. I think you should still try. What year are you transferring in as?

I will be a junior in the fall :). Yeah I thought I heard something about Sylvan. It would be kind of nice to live on campus if I didn’t have to deal with the freshman BS, just because I don’t know anyone and living on campus lets you actually meet people.

Have you decided on a major yet or are you going in as undeclared still? What year are you transferring as? Sophomore?

I am only a few credits shy of a sophomore. I wasn’t willing to finish up at Middlesex so I am transferring now. I am going in as a Psychology major. What about you?

Science…I have been accepted to the Natural Resource Conservation BS major. But I might change that…what I really need to do is a program eval and see where my transfer credits stack up first. I need to see how much longer it would take me to do a different major. I was particularly interested in Biochemistry and Animal Science also. I’m going to Costa Rica in the summer to do field research that’s similar to a job you could get with Natural Resource Conservation…so we’ll see how that goes. It will let me know whether or not its something I really want to do or not. I know I’m definitely staying in the science dept though.

If you finished up you would’ve saved yourself $2000 per year ;-)! but i don’t blame you, the community colleges are rather awful around here.

nice talking to you. I’m sure our paths will cross again on here. If not maybe we’ll run into each other on campus. Not too early to start making friends out there! Au revoir!

good luck. I am hoping to do some study abroad stuff. I am thinking of a minor in Biology, but I need to see if that is possible.

Have you signed up for the Summer NSO yet?

I’m sure minoring in Biology would not be a problem or difficult. You probably would only need a few classes.

I will be taking General Biology II @ Umass this year though not sure what semester, I think its only avail in the spring.

No I have no signed up for summer NSO. Everyone keeps talking about this but I’m not sure where/how I actually do this. I talked to the transfer counselor last week and I was under the impression that NSO was the time when you were registering for classes etc. But then I heard somebody say that they will house you there because it takes a day or two? I’m completely confused by this…from what the transfer counselor told me I would be missing the first registration so I would be registering sometime in July. not sure if that’s considered NSO or not?

any idea?

I am registered for July 11-12. I think you get acquainted with the school, photo for school id, register for classes. All that stuff takes place. You can go to an over night one or there are two in July that are just one day. They have a Summer NSO and a Fall NSO.

how do you register. yeah she said it was the 11th, 12th or 13th of july. you are doing the overnight one from 11th to 12th I presume?

Yes I am doing the overnight one. You can register once you send in your deposit, and it has been processed. Once you do that you go to the NSO page and click register summer nso. You log in and register, very simple.

aha! thank you! if i end up doing that NSO i’ll let you know!

Any transfer students heard from financial aid yet? If not, when do they typically give that information out?

nope… :(. they take seemingly forever.

I had a question maybe someone can help with. I was just looking on Spire at some classes I may want to register for, but most of them are full. How does that work out?? Are you really able to chose your classes if your a new student or are you just thrown into whatever is left?
