Are there any Junior transfer students at Dartmouth? Can you tell me about your transition into the school? What schools did you come from? Thanks a lot...I am thinking about transferring from Tufts to Dartmouth...is this a smart idea or should I just stick it out two more years?

Hi,

Dartmouth is very selective for Junior transfers, but transfers tend to get very well situated, even junior year. One huge advantage is you can start the summer before so you actually get to participate in sophomore summer, where you will meet your entire class. I transferred in as a sophomore (from Columbia) but I knew many Junior transfers who did a great job assimilating into campus life.

what made you want to transfer from Columbia to Dartmouth?

Wanted a much more LAC-like school, better social life, more community, better alumni loyalty, more undergrad focus, better study abroad, more resources for undergrads. Dartmouth is so fantastically unique, things like DOC trips, sophomore summer, dartmouth only study abroads for majors etc make the experience special. The community elements were a big reason as well. Best decision I ever made.

A junior transfer (for class of 2011) could really be hard because the class started out being over enrolled to the point they did not take anyone off the waitlist during their freshman year.

I do not remember if they took in any transfer students this year. You will have to wait until the common data set comes out next month or search the dartmouth forum for transfers. hey you never know how much, any movement there has been amongst the class.

good luck, I hope that it all works out.
