Any transfers for Winter/Spring 06?

Im getting ready to submit my application this weekend. I REALLY want to get accepted, can anyone tell me my chances? I'm applying as a communication studies major w/ no alternate major from a CCC w/ a 3.75 GPA. My GPA is actually should be a 3.85, but im waiting for a grade petition to go though. I'm IGETC certified and will have completed all major requirements by December. Thanks to anyone who replies, this is my first post by the way :)

I think your chances are very close to 100% with that GPA. I don't think UCSB offers their guaranteed transfer during Winter, but I don't think it will matter for you.

Do you have 60 units and the required classes as listed on step B of this page:

<a href="http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/SelectionProcess.asp?selectiontype=prospective_transfer%5B/url%5D">http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/SelectionProcess.asp?selectiontype=prospective_transfer</a></p>

UCSB has been very strict about those.

EDIT: Of course, if you have IGETC completed, I think IGETC covers all of those requirements.

In any case, good luck!

You will get in. Speaking as a Winter transfer myself, the admissions people told me that with the requirements fulfilled and a 3.5, you're basically guaranteed, even for Winter. Anything higher than a 3.0 should do it, as well, unless it is an impacted year.

i am applying to transfer this winter too! good luck!

What are your stats? I cant wait to get out of my CC, I hattte it.

Global Studies major, 3.0 GPA, will be IGETC certified by the end of this fall, most major requirements completed. My GPA will probably make me borderline. I studied abroad in Paris this summer & wrote my personal statement about it & how it was challenging but rewarding & a really good experience in helping me shape my goals & future. Well, I don't know. If this doesn't work out, I'll just re-apply in Novemeber for Fall admission. I'm submitting my application tonight.

Here's some info UCSB admissions e-mailed me:

For Winter 2006 admission we will consider classes taken during the fall. At some point during the fall, probably around October, we will request your summer grades, if any, and work in progress for fall. We will then project your completed units through December.

As for IGETC, it isn't required for admission, but if you complete it we will credit you with the required general education pattern for graduation. One thing about IGETC: before leaving you community college ask your counselor to certify your IGETC. It doesn't happen automatically. When your final transcript arrives we'll see "IGETC CERTIFIED" on it and that will satisfy the GE pattern. As for the course pattern, we like to see the two English composition and the required math course complete before the final semester.

For our campus we don't expect the later application deadline to affect our notification date. Other campuses have complained that the delayed deadline will put them off their schedule, but we don't expect that to happen here. You could start an application for fall '06 if you wanted and then wait until you heard from UCSB before submitting the final app.

We evaluate applications on a rolling basis so the earlier you submit your application the sooner you will here from us. However, at this point there is no guarantee that you will be notified about your admission status until the end of the filling period for fall 2006. If you don't find out your admissions status prior to the closing date for fall 2006 application period, you may apply again for fall 2006. But keep in mind though that you will be responsible for the cost of filling both applications.

Also, winter application is generally more competitive since UCSB has fewer spaces to offer to our prospective students. We were told the admission GPA for winter would probably start at 3.2 but might come down to a 3.0. Completing the second English composition course during the fall could be a problem. We first admit all the applicants who have already completed the three course pattern (2 English comp and 1 math). Then we look at the students who are still completing the pattern.

Transfer applicants are admitted "on the numbers," meaning you units, GPA, and course pattern. Your volunteer work and your student statement will not be weighted in the admission decision. The student statement provides additional information, such as deficienies, but it is not an integral part of the decision like it is for freshman applications.

Your post made me so happy, i think im going to get in, good luck to you as well :) I just made my schedule for this coming semester, my last at my CC, its loaded with filler classes. I hate how I have to wait until 60 units to transfer bc im bored right now taking classes I dont really need

okay, i submitted my application this morning. phew. i'm getting pretty anxious now. but if the average is 3.3 then somebody has to make up that bottom curve, right? did you only apply to ucsb?

ya, i only applied to UCSB bc i dotn want to take a semester off and this was the only school I would consider that had winter/spring admission. If I dont get into sb this term, im gunna reapply and then also apply to UCLA

i only applied to ucsb too. i think i'm using winter admission as an excuse to not go to ucsd. i'm from san diego & my parents think i'm doing ucsd's tag for fall. i told them i was just applying to ucsb to see if i would get in but if i do get in, i'm definitely going.

ya i wish all the campuses had winter/spring admission, it would just make things a lot easier. I'm also in your position my parents want me to go to ucla more than ucsb

i know. do you anyone who goes there? i only know 4 people there who went to my high school. well, we'll be up there partying in no time hopefully!

i dont know anyone, i went to high school in Texas!

have you talked to any of the transfer advisors at El Camino. You qualify easily for UCLA,Berkley, and stanford. Depending on major though.

Yeah, that's a high GPA that would probably get a good shot at some of those schools. On the other hand, maybe he/she wants to go to UCSB. It isn't out of the ordinary :p

ya I am having a VERY hard time deciding b/t schools. I just got a grade changed on my transcript so now i actually have a 3.8, which I know will get me into "better" schools than UCSB. I'm thinking maybe I should just wait and apply to schools for the fall 06 term. I'm hoping to get some kind of scholarship, and my decision will prob be based off of that. What would you guys do? None of my family went to college so I feel like I have no guidance, and the councelors at my school have been useless so far.

If you don't mind riding out another semester at your community college, I suppose you could apply for Fall 2006, and you'll automatically be in at UCSB and have a good shot at the other schools.

Have you visited the campuses you're interested in? If you haven't, it would probably a good idea to do so and get a feel for the campuses, and see if any of them really jump out at you.

UCSB supposedly has a good communications program (and supposedly a good graduate program), although the other colleges you mentioned are premiere instituions and that's also something to consider.

You might also want to ask this question on the College Search & Selection board, I'm sure there will be plenty of people willing to help you out.

I think i have already mentioned that i go to el camino as well. i have just applied to ucsc and ucsb and will most likely be accepted. I plan to wait so i can apply to ucla. which advisors did you speak to because they are a few very good ones who were former uc including ucla reviewers.
