I know of jefferson scholars... but there is a thing at Emory called an Emory scholar, and you just apply for it...

my school is not part of the jefferson scholar thing, but is there anything that can provide me a scholarship? echols scholar is for second years, and i want to apply for something for ungrad first year.

there is rodman for engineering, but i believe that applies to everyone who applies to engineering, and the adcom chooses who gets an invitation at admissions time, so i fyou are doing engineering i am pretty sure you have a chance for the rodman scholars program

Actually, you're picked to be an Echols Scholar in the College of Arts & Sciences when you're admitted as a first-year. It's similar w/ Rodman Scholars at the Engineering school.

You can only apply to be an Echols Scholar if you weren't chosen to be one when admitted to the University. You can begin applying during your 1st semester of your 1st year.

uva james, can you ask your guidance counselor how they go about participating in the jefferson scholarship program...just don't go by the fact that they are not on the list of schools that participate, ask how your school could possibly be included...anything is worth a shot i guess...maybe they can't but it does not hurt to ask

Incidentally, there are currently 8 UVa alums who are U.S. ambassadors worldwide, and they may be great resources for you if plan a career in diplomacy.
