Hey all,
I'm a frosh at UCSD and am looking to transfer to UCB, UCLA, Stanford...or, who knows?! Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone currently at UCSD or anyone who has transferred from UCSD would be able to offer a bit of guidance to a somewhat clueless freshman.

I am a sophomore and I am trying to transfer....Send me a private message if you have any questions and/or concerns..I havent got anywhere yet but hoping to get accepted somewhere though I am not sure if i want to transfer, even if i am accepted.....

Woot. Rather be a bear (preferred, oh so close to home) or a bruin than a snail anyday (yes, tritons are marine snails, not gods...) Hope we all get into our 1st choice!

I hope it helps nikkei..By the way, I am a sophomore at UCSD...

Pros:
1. Fabulous Research Opportunities
2. Lovely Gym, decent sports facilities, swimming pool
3. Lovely beaches nearby
4. Pretty decent dorms
5. Well stocked libraries
6. Top of the line Science classes
7. Awesome weather
8. Decent peer group
9. Huge campus with decent shuttle service
10. Very helpful people and generally a chill take it easy atmosphere

Cons:
1. No campus spirit
2. No football team
3. Bad campus life unless you know the right people
4. Annoying RSO's who write you up for sneezing loud etc
5. Inaccessible faculty since they are heavily into research
6. Too large introductory classes
7. Average grade given is a C+ which is unfair since most top tier colleges give B/B+ as average
8. Extremely competitive Upper Division classes
9. Quarter system: which moves twice as fast as semester system
10. Midterms in every week of the quarter almost

I don't think the campus size is a pro. The shuttles are every 8min. at least and follow a loop. Skateboards and bikes work better.

Another thing is that UCSD is quite isolated. You either need a car or would be willing to spend 2 hours getting to SD proper by bus. Most of the fun is there. Uptight LJ is not a college-friendly town.

No, my point wasnt of criticising UCSD at all...
I think its a great school to go to if you like a calm atmosphere and are heavily into research and academics........or you are specially interested in Sciences....And if you know the right people, there are lot of parties off campus and it can be good fun on the weekends.......
