Any UCSD transfer students for fall 08?

So who is transfering to UCSD?

have you got in ? How old are you guys and are any of you going to transfer admit day?

I'm 21 (will be 22 in july) i'm transfering this fall and i got into sixth college
i sometimes feel like i'm older than most transfers but i took 1 year break from school to work and travel.

I'm really excited, my only concern however is Housing, i don't know anyone in SD so i don't know how i'm going to find a good roomate. Hopefully i'll make some friends my first quarters, maybe even join a fraternity so i can meet some ppl to roomate w/.

Anyone going to transfer day? i don't know if it's worth the drive, i'm from San Jose Ca.. about 9 hours from SD

Hey there, i'm 20 years old and was admitted to UCSD's Muir College as an Econ Transfer student from Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, CA. I'll be going to transfer admit day as well. Housing shouldn't be an issue for me next year, because I have friends who have gone there since freshman year and we all plan to get a house in pacific beach next fall. I'm stoked for that.

my brother got into sixth as a transfer, he's 19. majoring in psych. from fremont, ca, but its only 7 and a half hours from either one of our cities, did you know that?

my n my fam are gonna drive down for admit day

i'm from sacramento and made the drive up and down at least twice a year. if you're not interested in LA traffic, i'd suggest leaving around 4 am from either end -- i always managed to avoid it. and the stretch between stockton and the grapevine is hella boring anyway, doesn't matter whether you see it at night or during the day.

PS -- assuming a start with a full tank of gas and one gas stop in between, i could make it between UCSD and home in 7 hours even. still ticket-free! :)

haha nice considering sac is way more north than fremont, and according to google maps it should take about 7.5 hours if i take I5....so im guessing i can probably make it in about 6.5 hours ;)

Ya i'm from the bay too and don't know anyone else going to ucsd so i'm kinda concerned about housing - reading about the apartments they have around campus on Yelp.com i've heard mostly negative reviews.

yeah housing is one of my main concerns.

what kind of stuff did you read on yelp.com??

oh and aboutthedrive, i hate traffic so i was even considerng leaving my car in san diego whenever i drove back to san jose (except for summer).

You guys already got in??? How come I haven't gotten my acceptance yet (is it rolling admissions or is something wrong)? I am transferring with a TAG contract, should that be a factor?
I'm really anxious to get my decision, if you guys could tell me what's going on that would be great.

Costa Verde - San Diego, CA 92122
La Regencia - La Jolla - San Diego, CA 92122
Archstone Torrey Hills Apartments - Torrey Hills - San Diego, CA

Those are three of the main appartment complexes i hear a lot of students live in

i disagree with the last one -- it's too far away, in a too-nice neighborhood, and definitely requires a car for commuting. there are additional archstones in the area though.

I agree with astrina. I haven't heard of anyone living in Torrey Hills. It's too far away (and you'd have to cross a 14 lane freeway) to have good access to the school. The other two are the popular ones.

I've been checking online everyday for weeks and today when I logged on, I finally got my acceptance to Thurgood Marshall College. I didn't think I was gonna get in, but I did, so that's awesome, but I'm not sure if I'm going to go. I definitely like the campus, but my main concern is housing. I've always wanted the dorm experience and I won't get that at UCSD as a transfer. Plus, how do I find a roommate that I trust? I cannot afford an apartment by myself in La Jolla, but I don't know anyone I could share with.

Anyway...my name's Felicia. I'm 18 years old, but I'll be 19 before the Fall Quarter. I'm in Arleta, CA...about 20 minutes from Downtown LA, so not too far from San Diego. I'm planning on going to Transfer Admit Day with my mom and grandma (so they can see the area and know that I'll be safe...SO overprotective...whatever...)

feesha724, I'm sort of in the same boat as you!

I was so surprised when I checked today and saw that I got in. San Diego was my reach school, haha. I'm still waiting for Davis and Irvine... but my mom wanted me to start looking into UCSD cause she really wants me to go there. My main concern is the housing... and I don't have anyone to room with either cause my friends who go there already have contracts, etc. :(

hello, why dont you two room together?

this is what my roomate ad is going to say..

Looking for a roomate..
does not mind alcohol (i mean.. come on, at least on the weekends some moderate drinking will not kill u)
friendly, i don't want to feel like i'm living with a complete stranger throughout the whole year/quarter .. i want someone i can be friends with u know..
If you are obsessed with movies such as star wars, star treck to the poin that you'll talk about them 24/7 and believe there is a force, and/or your favorite sport/exercise is playing imaginary light saber fights....... FORGET YOU READ THIS AD

haha i think very few people will want to b my roomate with an add like that

hummm i may have to steal that add from you...

I'm hoping to meet some cool people at Transfer Admit Day and maybe find someone I would want to room with, since we're all pretty much in the same boat...

premed: it's all urs haha!
i mean, ucsd is known for its academics more than its social life, and college is stressful you gotta have at least some fun friday and saturday nights..
good thing i'm 21!

Riddle me this....
Where is the best place to post adds for a room mate?

Do the frats at UCSD not have housing? That seems odd
