I just received my letter today saying I've been waitlisted and that I have a 1/6 to 1/7 chance of getting accepted eventually. I was expecting a rejection as I applied last minute (literally) and blew off the "Why Emory?" essay with poorly written crap. Are any of you going to accept the waitlist? My concern is that I'll get a pitiful amount of aid because it's probably all gone. I also don't want to go to Oxford at Emory (they offer to send over your app if you'd like).

Often colleges will take students on the waitlists based on financial status (no matter what they say about need blind). So if you are looking for a decent amount of financial aid, it could be extremely hard. Yet it also depends on what you are majoring in.

bravesboy...what are your stats?

SAT: 1460/2230 M:730 V:730 W:770
SAT2 US History:780 SAT2 Math 2C: 710
GPA: 3.9 UW, 4.0 W
10 APs, AP Scholar with Distinction
ECs: Debate, Founded of 2 Academic clubs, Interned as a research assistant to a prof, Lots of school video production.
Amazing recs.

Emory was never really high on my list. Money is very important to me. I'm most likely headed to the honors program at American University in DC on a 25K scholarship.

hmm....your stats are amazing....i wonder why you got waitlisted....did you show interest in the school (did you visit or order the DVD before applying)

I received an E-mail today.
I'm on the waitlist.
They even suggested me to attend Oxford College for 2 years and transfer to Emory. :>

Yeah, see I showed no interest and I blew off the "Why Emory" essay. Not to mention I applied within the last hour of the deadline.

I was on the waitlist, too

i was on the waitlist (harvard).

Bravesboy, I'm sure the only reason you were waitlisted was because of the lack of interest you showed. There is so reason you shouldn't have been accepted with those stats. I was waitlisted also with comparable stats to yours, but Emory apparently really cares about "demonstrated interest." I know a lot of kids who were accepted that had stats less than ours, but Emory was their top-choice school.

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm not that concerned as I'm sure that Emory would of been way out of my price range. I'm headed to American University in DC, much more comfortable for me socially, on a 25K scholarship. However, if some magic happens here, who knows what will happen.

I am on waitlisted. I really want to be accepted. Emory was my first choice but I didn't show mt interest. What should I do now? I am going to send a formal letter with my teacher's recommendation and visit Emory next week to meet an admission officer without an appointment. Is it okay?

Waillisted On Maui. Will Remain On Waitlist And Pay Deposit At Either Northeaster Or Providence.

I was waitlisted as well. (800M/690R/740W, 11/500, 4.3W, 3.8UW, IB diploma) What date are you guys going to put down for when you will be no longer interested?

Waitlisted here too.

Expected to get rejected because of my poor GPA but oh well.
Stats:
SATs: 2260/2400 (V: 760, M: 760, W: 720); IIs: 790/770
GPA: 3.3 UW, 3.9 W (... I had 5 C's my sophomore year. End of discussion.)
8 APs, full IB diploma candidate.
EC: Editor of newspaper, girls varsity tennis, JSA (debate) club publicity, blahblahblah. Won lots of regional, state and national journalism awards. Pretty great recs.

My GPA is the death of me.

I will not response affirmative to this waitlist though.
I am giving my all towards Boston College instead.

i was also waitlisted. similar stats in things...

Boston College is an AWESOME school, Syneria. I wouldn't feel bad about being waitlisted at Emory at all! I'm in a similar situation as you, and I have the chance to go to Boston University. At first, I was really upset to be waitlisted at Emory, especially when a lot of my friends got in with lower stats. I guess I was being a bit arrogant and thought I would for sure get in, but I still believe everything happens for a reason. Trust me, I live in Atlanta, and I think you'd have much more fun in Boston anyway! Good luck! :)

Heh, thanks for the encouragement.

My friend who has lower stats got into Emory too, but I'm not bitter or angry or anything; actually, I'm so happy and proud for her. She was having such a hard time the past 2 weeks, with her boyfriend dumping her right as she got bombarded with her rejections, but she got into Emory this week, so I'm happy for her!

:) I have all fingers cross for Boston College. Who knows, if I get in, I might even see you around Boston some random weekend (though I wouldn't even know if I did.)

For those of you accepting a spot on the waitlist, what date are you putting down?

i put june 2nd... becauxe it said for sure u would know by june 1st. :-D
