Any waitlisters heard back?

Don’t expect anything, but definitely don’t lose hope! You never know what might happen. In September I would not have even dreamed that I would be going to Rice (for many reasons, not just that I wasn’t sure if I’d get in).

(Sorry if anyone got excited when they saw that the thread had been posted in. No new news, sorry!)

Ok, so I sent in an email updating Rice on my achievements a little over a month ago, and then I sent them a postcard a few weeks after that saying how I loved Rice and would definitely go if I got in. Except I sent it in the mail, so I’m not sure if they got it. Would it be considered persistant or just annoying if I sent them an email version of the postcard, with a short-ish note under it telling them why I love Rice? I don’t think it could hurt my chances, but I’m not sure. What do you guys think?

I called the office and they said “by June 1st.” Does anyone know anything?

I think there won’t be many spots for waitlisters this year, but that’s only my point of view …and I hope my assumption is wrong!!

KP, when did you call the office?

On friday

still waiting…

Has anyone called recently? I think I’m going to call and see if I can get any info tomorrow. I might ask if they’re going to use their waitlist this year, but they probably won’t tell me anything specific.

Harvard has gone to its waitlist, as has Columbia and several other top colleges. If that happens, there may be some movement on the Rice waitlist. Here’s hoping for you guys!!! :)

Ok, I called the admissions office today, and they said the same thing they told KP a week or two ago—they won’t have any more info until June 1. I also asked how they notify, and the woman said by phone.

anxiousmom, I really hope you’re right! thanks for thinking of us

and the waiting continues…

My daughter and two classmates are Stanford bound. They have timely notified Rice of their decision. Hope you guys receive some good news from Rice soon.
It has been hard on me as I am a proud alumnus and strong supporter of Rice in terms of time and money. Had hoped that all my three kids would attend Rice. Small school, highly ranked (but not as high as it should) and most selective (Nonadmits attend Columbia, Cornell, Pen, Duke etc. each year). Very strong alumni network.
Wish Rice had bought Baylor College of Medicine and begin its own Law School. These were the visions of the founders; and are needed to elevate Rice’s stature from where it has been stuck, while “less selective” schools like WUStl, Duke etc. continue to climb.

They aren’t going to the waitlist I got an email

Well…SMU here I come!

Too bad about the waitlist. I had expected more acceptances since Rice is increasing the class size by 1/3 over three years.
An option I recommend is to transfer next year. That means no let-up in the final grades of the senior year in high school; and acing the fall semester of college. Doing well at college level work and strong determination in getting into Rice help. If the SAT score can be raised, take it again. Also, pick two sympathetic professors early on, who will write your LOR. (But you may do so well in that school, made good friends and I decide to stay, which is okay too).
It sucks that transfer application deadline is Feb and decision not made until May.
I was accepted in May, and heading for Johns Hopkins. It was awkward being new at first since everyone knew each other from freshmen year. But the residential college system facilitates making new friends.
One problem I had was the transfer of credits. I took Ancient History at the University of Houston during the summer. The professor looked at the course material and said that the contents were not identical. I liked the subject and had to retake the course; but she was a great teacher.
Rice is a wonderful school. I am a physician and everyone I knew at Rice got into medical school, whether or not they were premed (There was no weeding out). There was an option of spending the senior year doing research. The huge Texas Medical Center is next door. In fact, I mostly studied at the Jones Medical Library in my junior and senior years. I liked the atmosphere; and journals were easier to find for my seminar courses. These were graduate level classes, which met in the evening. The professor brought coffee and we three students brought snacks. Grades were As for everyone.
Good luck.

My D did not get an email stating that they were not going off the waitlist. She checked her status and it still shows as waitlisted! Can you post email that you recieved?

Dear xxxxx,

The Committee on Admission has just completed a survey of our fall term
enrollment situation, and the Class of 2015 is currently over-subscribed. Even
though the number of students offered admission was lower than last year, the
yield rate for this class was substantially higher than expected. We no longer
anticipate any openings for students on the alternate list, so Rice is
releasing the waitlist as of May 27, 2011.

We regret that we were unable to include you in our freshman class, but we are
confident of your success as you begin your undergraduate years at another
institution. You are welcome to apply for transfer admission for the fall of
2012. Rice is an exclusive user of the Transfer Common Application, and the
deadline for transfer application is March 15, 2012.

Thank you for the time you took to explore and apply to Rice. Best wishes for
much success in your undergraduate career.

Yours sincerely,

Dean for Undergraduate Enrollment

Well my status still shows as waitlist but I received the email.

golfblackhole - May I ask what State and type of school your daughter goes to? Sounds like her school does well with Stanford.
