I can start to sign up for classes next Monday after I update my UT EID, but the problem is, most of the classes I want to take are full. This is a nightmare, considering my Major (BSMath Actuarial Science) only has a few class progressions and I can't advance in any of them because of the classes being full, not to mention the fact that I'm unable to pick good professors, and arrange my schedule to fit my time and all that jazz. I know at UTD I could always talk to a professor and have them "sign" me into their class, but I'm not sure if its the same at UT due to the large number of students.

To current students (or anyone who can answer), my question is: Are there any ways, including getting a specific professor to sign you into their class, that you can circumvent the wait-list? As a transfer student, I feel like I'm at a horrible disadvantage to the rest of the Sophomores and Juniors who were allowed to register a few months ago, since I have to compete for space in the same classes.

Hey no worries, I was a transfer last year and all of the classes I wanted were full too. Just be persistent and it will pay off. I obsessively refreshed the pages and checked back again and again and gradually was able to squeeze myself into all the classes I wanted with professors I wanted! Really wasn’t that bad at all. The class times weren’t even too early or too late by some miracle. So my advice is to just check back constantly.

Well Friday morning is supposedly when they open up new spaces for classes. I’ll definitely be sure to check the pages then. Hopefully we can get the classes we want. (:

I was a transfer last semester too and I got into all the classes that I wanted also after checking and refreshing the pages constantly. Also, I went to go talk to my advisor the week before class started and she got me into a class that I really wanted to get into (even though it was full and no waitlist). So if there is one particular class that you really want, you might want to check with your advisor to see if they can help at all. Good luck :-)

@midwestmom. What if I’m going to orientation on the 18-19. Will I still have to pay the tuition fees? I wouldn’t have registered for any classes until 18-19… Soo Im confused haha thanks!

Well I just figured out that most of my classes that are closed/waitlisted are not going to open up on Friday mornings (9am central). So that trick doesn’t work me for me but probably for others. I saw quite a few intro classes such as Bio 311 and Chem 301 open up but not the upper ones. :(

Although I did score a spot in Chiu’s PHY 303k class morning! :)

You should probably just check and refresh pages often as some have already stated. You’ll most likely be lucky and get a spot. :)

wheatmom - I would check for other professors that are closed to see if they will open or have more waitlist so I could change. But yes, you’re right…

Elasticity - Which calculus class do you need? They have a lot of them open…

You can change your schedule during Add/Drop dates. Check the registrar’s calendar to find out when those dates are for you. Once the first class day arrives, you have full add/drop up until the 12th class day. On that day, official registration counts are taken and you are officially “enrolled” in those classes, and you will have to go through an advising office or the department to get the class dropped.

Does it mean once I paid my tuition my waitlist will be removed? Do I have to wait until the add/drop dates to add those I was originally waitlisted? Several people had mentioned after the tuition due date many classes will be reopen and I may be able to be off the waitlist. I do need to pay before the due date so that the classes I’ve already registered won’t be dropped.

You have to pay tuition on the due date. Period. Make sure you have 12 hours on that due date also, even if you don’t want to take some of the classes.

The waitlist will put you in the class as soon as somebody else drops (if you are #1 in the waitlist line), even if it’s not during add/drop or during a time that you can add/drop (like, 5am for most people). You don’t manually add anything.

ok, thanks Why Two Kay for the explanation. I will pay the tuition wit two classes I intend to drop and hopefully I can be off the waitlist for two other classes.

Try to find some class that fits your schedule (and is open) that works toward your major. Take a government, english, history, etc. Some general education stuff. Unless you have AP credit, then it does get tougher to be a freshman taking non-freshman classes, since the upperclassmen have already registered in April.
