I got in as an OOS undeclared major, but I want to do ChemE. When I applied I had wanted to do either business or biomed engineering so I made those my two options, which would rule out appealing (right?). Is there a chance that I could get into ChemE before my freshmen year begins through some appeal process or at least get into a decent major? I got into UIUC for ChemE but UT is my top choice so I'm torn now which one I should go to but I'd take UT if I can get a decent major my first year and try transferring into ChemE. If it helps, my scores are good...3.7 GPA, 2130 SAT, 640 Math 2 Subject Test (retook in January and got a 760 so hopefully UT will take this into account if they let me change majors).

guru - I would call Admissions to find out your options. ChemE admissions was just as brutal as BME this year, if not more so. I understand they were turning down top 3% in-state students with solid scores and faculty affiliations.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. If they won’t let you appeal, then at least they can help you plan your path for transferring into ChemE or BME from Undeclared after your freshman year.
