I know they offer the divisional studies, the Core Curriculum, etc., but is there any way to get around the foreign language requirement? I’m talking about the college of arts and sciences here… but what about one of the other schools? I suffered a traumatic brain injury, which makes it nearly impossible to find the right words in English, let alone another language. Thank you.

I’m an incoming freshmen as well, and I’m sorry to hear about your injury. All I’ve seen so far that would exempt us from credit is taking the SAT II’s while scoring higher than a 550 and receiving a 5 on the AP exam.

This sounds like something it would be beneficial to talk to your advisor about, as well as the department that serves students with disabilities. You could suggest taking culture classes instead.

See if they will let you substitute sign language for a foreign language (unless there is a fine motor issue as well from your TBI that would make it too frustrating.)

You can take a proficiency test at BU to meet your language requirements. Otherwise score a high enough score on an SAT Subject Test or score high enough on an AP language exam to get language credits.

I’m sure if you have a legitimate issue due to your injury, there would be some way to waive the requirement. I’d definitely talk to an advisor or someone about it.
