I know the "hear by" date is Dec. 18, but I'm wondering whether anyone's heard anything yet and, if so, what ("in" or not) and how (email, status change on application tracker, mail).

Good luck to everyone!

Nope. Today is my son’s birthday; good news would have been great on this day, but disappointing news would have been horrible. He’s pretty calm about waiting (I think).

Hey: Good luck to everyone waiting. We were there a year ago. Letter came on the 18th via US post. I think email is only available to international students. Hang in there.

Thanks, mmaah. Just out of curiosity, was Dec. 18 the “date” last year, like it is this year, for ED I notification, and did your applicant also apply for financial aid?

I’m just wondering whether those who aren’t applying for fin. aid might hear earlier, since the admissions dept. doesn’t have to bundle their info. up with the fin. aid dept.'s info. before mailing it out.

Our DD applied for financial aid, so…

Also, thanks in general for being such a thoughtful and insightful poster w/r/t Whitman - your input was very valuable for us. Our DD wants Whitman so badly she can almost taste it, but what will be, will be…

I actually don’t recall-but I think last year it was the 21st and we were happy to hear earlier. We were not waiting on financial aid. I think that information may be sent separately in any case and I think they try very hard not to let that be a factor at this stage in their decision (you are not obligated if it is not enough but they use a fair formula to determine for all I think; I imagine they do save the biggest awards/merit type for those in RD as it can be a draw for those who are choosing among many “suitors”. ED folks have already declared their love)

I do think they send in batches and mail deliver varies across the country, especially with winter weather, so the results came in last year over a range of days. Hang in there…

We were waiting on the ED letters four years ago. It came as scheduled – the school mailed them when they said they would and not a moment before. The financial aid letter came separately, maybe even a couple of weeks later, but my memory is not very clear on that. We’re in California, and I do remember that others on CC got their letters before we did.

thanks for the info. - ah, waiting…

ED1 apps at Whitman down a little over 20% from last year.

[Early Decision applications decline from last year, still above average » The Pioneer | Whitman news, delivered.](http://whitmanpioneer.com/news/2009/12/07/early-decision-applications-down-from-last-year-still-above-average/)

I must admit that I’m completely flummoxed at the fact that Whitman puts time and money into creating an advanced, highly interactive webpage that they update frequently solely for making sure all of the students know exactly how complete their application is…and then relies on snail mail to deliver admission notifications.

Literally every college that I know of on the West Coast that has Early Decision uses email or an interactive website to convey admission decisions. Seems sort of ridiculous that Whitman doesn’t use its website to do the same.

Are you SURE admissions won’t post admission status on the log in page on 12/18? You might want to call them and ask. I’d actually be surprised if they don’t, for all the same reasons you mention.

Does anyone know if the message “mail notification date- Dec. 18” means it will be sent out on the 18th, or in our mailboxes by then?

I dont know if i wait through the weekend!
and good luck to everyone applyind ED!

When my D called admissions, she was told that they’d be mailed out on the 18th.

They’ll be MAILED on the 18th? Are you sure? I was almost positive that they were mailed on the 15th and will arrive by the 18th. That’s what the website said anyway.

Yeah, I really hope they’ll email or update the website on the 18th if the letters aren’t arriving until like, a week after the decision date.

Yeah they’re going to put it on the website on the 18th
