Any x-c track recruits out there?

Have any of you already received your special athletic application, submitted it and then been accepted, and then been invited to an official visit yet? Or is your recruiting story different? Trying to figure out what Stanford's deal is and where D stands....

Anyone out there?

I would love to run track at Stanford but i’m not good enough. My main event is the 400m hurdles and i had a terrible season last year. Injuries and such. I was favored to win or come 2nd for counties but i came in 5th. At states sectionals i was favored to advance to state groups. i missed advancing by one spot in what was undoubtedly the worse (technique-wise) race of my life. Sorry i couldn’t help but best of luck to your daughter.

Know someone who was accepted last week.

Thanks. ^Male or female?

Yea I heard of some kid ranked 1st or so in the nation got into Stanford. I heard this from my buddy who is ranked 8th in CA currently and is friends with the recruited athlete.

I’m a little confused what you guys are talking about. No recruited athlete at Stanford would already know for sure that they are in/have been officially accepted by admissions. My son was recruited in a different sport, so maybe it’s different than for track, but he sent all of his scores in in early September, went on an official visit in late September, and applied Early Action to Stanford. There are very, very few recruits who sign a letter of intent, but I believe the signing period only begins tomorrow.

You are incorrect, some recruits are able to do the early app for athletics, for which the deadline is October 1 or so. Those recruits would know around now if they’d been accepted.

^ Precisely this confusion is why I first posted. Recruiting is so different across sports, genders, and schools, and I’m having trouble getting straight answers!

What the Stanford coach told my D is that the Admissions Office works first on preparing the special athletic recruit applications for the sports with the earliest NCAA signing date. Since the first signing date for track isn’t until February, track recruits are low on the totem pole. Anyway, the coach said that after D receives the special application, she has to submit it and be accepted by Admissions BEFORE the coach can schedule her official visit. This is not the same as an admissions pre-read–that was already done. This is a full-fledged acceptance.

But here’s the confusing part: none of the other D1 schools D is looking at operate this way. All of them were able to complete an admissions pre-read early on and then schedule an official visit for her in September or October. The application phase was to come later, once she decided she wanted to commit.

I know Stanford is Stanford and all, but how can they compete with the other schools if they operate on such a late timetable? It’s risky for the student to hold off his/her other offers, Ivies for example, past the ED deadline and worse, into the new year. So, as you can imagine, this situation had us wondering whether the Stanford coach was being truthful about D being in their top recruit pool. Also, we heard rumors (but have no substantiated facts) that other runners have already been on officials to Stanford.

So…
