Hey guys,

I'm stressing out. I've always wanted to attend UChicago, but my GPA is low by their standards.

My entire application is very strong, with literally thousands of hours in ECs relating to my choice in major, 5s on APs, high ACT and SAT scores, supplement essays that I've poured my life into, but my UW GPA is low.

Looking at all you guys posting your 4.0 GPAs is pretty disheartening to someone like myself. I guess I'm looking for some self assurance that I do indeed have a chance at getting in. So, has anybody heard of anyone with a GPA like mine getting accepted?

If it helps, my weighted GPA is about a 3.7-3.9

Yes, there was a guy in my house first year who was admitted with a 3.3 GPA and a 2010 SAT score.

Another guy in my calculus class last year had a 3.4 in high school, so slightly higher than yours but not by much.

Greg Nance, who graduated last year and was a Gates-Cambridge scholar, had a 3.18 GPA in high school. (Source: [Nance works the body – The Chicago Maroon](<a href=“Scalzi: From the U of C to a galaxy far, far away – Chicago Maroon”>Scalzi: From the U of C to a galaxy far, far away – Chicago Maroon)).

I’m sure there are plenty more that I don’t know about personally, but you should definitely apply. Though yours is definitely not on the lower end, it’s not too uncommon to be admitted with a GPA like yours.

Yep, it’s definitely possible, particularly as you have high test scores and very dedicated ECs. Also, if your high school is known for being difficult, your counselors will probably send that information to all of the schools that you apply to, which will help keep your application in perspective. Definitely apply EA if you can. Good luck!

To quote myself:
“Though yours is definitely not on the lower end, it’s not too uncommon to be admitted with a GPA like yours”

err sorry I meant that yours definitely is on the lower end, but still apply because if you are otherwise a solid applicant it can happen.

I do know someone with GPA in your range! He had 3.32ish. Not URM. Not legacy. No donations/connections. I think it’s definitely doable. Just make sure you write a glowing essay!
