I hope your theory is right. My D is appealing too. 25 girls from her school were admitted to 'SC this year, but only 5 have accepted. Many are going to UC's or LAC's that have offered them financial aid. I am surprised that only 7500 were admitted this year. My guess is that USC wanted to avoid having 300 more freshman enroll beyong the original 2600.

Yeah but if that 20% rate is true, then that would mean only 1500 would go, which is VERY unlikely. My school (small private Christian school) there were two acceptances and neither went... so... I really wonder. If 41 of 626 appeals were accepted last year when they were 300 over, I wonder how many there would be if they were under the 2600 they want...

Also, I was wondering what was up with the large number of parents representing students named "Dee." I think I just realized that that likely means daughter. Man, I feel stupid...

D's counselor said a lot of kids are going to USC this year. Normally it's 50%.However, this year fewer kids got in so I don't know what percentage that would be.

Iamrecognized- that is so funny! But my student is not D/DEE, mine is S/ESS. :)

RAM,
Fewer students were accepted this year. The yield last year was higher than the university planned. Keep in mind that SC is a favorite for international students, which are about 7% of the incoming class. Also, legacy students are usually apt to attend SC and join the Trojan family. There is no doubt in my mind that SC will fill their freshman class with admitted students. Also, admissions officers are savvy. I really feel they have a decent idea about many of the admitted students and where they may end up in the fall.
The economy is a question. If needed, the admissions office can move students from spring admits to fall admits.

Thanks for the feedback Georgia Girl. I think you are right.
If her appeal fails, which is likely given the great odds, she will probably try to transfer in as a sophomore (she's a triple legacy).

Thanks for crushing my dreams, Georgia Girl...

I'm curious to see what is the yield rate for USC this year. Last year the admit rate was 25% with 32% yield rate.

can anyone else share their basis for appealing?? if they don't mind.

My D's school is one of the schools listed on USC site with one of the greatest percentages of students matriculating to USC. This year however for some reason, a lot of kids accepted to USC are choosing the two UCs, particularly Berkeley (more acceptances than last year).
As far as we've heard the # of students going to USC is low this year compared to past years.
Cannot speak ofcourse for all other acceptances but USC's usual expectation of matriculants from Ds school will not be met.
Hopefully this means a little bit that some appeals will be successful for you guys.
Best of luck!

Sequoia - can you give us the link on the USC site that lists the high schools with the greatest percentage of students to matriculate. I tried to find in and couldn't. I'd be interested to see if my d's school ranks.

Thanks!

Try this:

These are stats for the class entering Fall 2007

This is out of date (2006-2007), I believe Torrey Pines is #1 this year, but the group of HSs (both public and private) generally stay the same.

Maannn!! I cant take waiting anymore! Only a week and a half guys. Hang in there!

One week left... has anyone had a status change since they submitted their appeal?

Nope. The only thing my status ever changed during this whole ordeal was the date, on 4/19, which is when they received it.

No change here. So...hows this going to work? They just send everyone an email on the 15th?

I thought it was the fourteenth... But I may be misremembering.

I have no idea though. I remember hearing a while back that they sent them a bit earlier than they said they would last year...
