because they waited until the 15th and post offices were closed? and hten of course the ups guy teases goodnaturedly about waiting till the last minute?

btw, I’ve been working on my supplemental essay since like november and I basically had everything ready to go like the 10th. o well. bryn mawr is also my first choice school- i say this in the essay and i hope they don’t think i’m lying because i didn’t apply ed for financial reasons.

I sent my D's supplement on Thrusday of last week by UPS to get there by 12 noon on Friday. D did realize that the supp had to me mailed vs. electronic submission. Thank God for UPS.

passionflower8 - good luck with your BMC application - I remember reading that you're from Central NJ. My D was accepted to BMC ED1 and we live in Somerset County, NJ. What high school do you go to? What made BMC your first choice?

i go to Bridgewater Raritan. It's a really big, very competitive, and sometimes impersonal school. That really helped fuel my decision to pick a small liberal arts school with a personal touch and a sense of community.
I also really love interactive learning, so the small classes also helped convince me. As a feminist, seeing how women really are in the absence of men also appealed to me- the chance to be an academic amazon.
I also really liked the campus and the admissions people, who were interesting, bright, and funny, totally the type of people I could see myself hanging around with. There's really not much I don't like about Bryn Mawr. In some ways, I wish it were a more selective, well-known school because college is such a status symbol at my hs, and all the extra worrying I put into my test scores and stuff now seems silly, as my scores are at or above range for BMC. Another thing about Bryn Mawr is that it seems like a school that is for people like me who have accomplishmed a lot in high school, yet aren't perfect achievement machines who have all the discipline and direction in the world at 15 and are finished products by the time they graduate. i really want to go to a school where i'll be admitted not just to carry on the proud tradition of a brand name, but to be part of a community where I'll have the opportunity to really fullfill my potential.
where does your daughter go? congratualtions on getting in. being in already must take so much weight off your shoulders- personally i've applied to nine colleges and still don't know where i'll end up going, unlike your very lucky daughter. i almost thought about applying ed2 but my family's in that bracket we're not poor enough to be sure we'll get everything covered by finaid or rich enough to not have to worry about the cost. i hope bmc accepts me and gives me the best aid, then my final decision will be so clear cut.

passionflower8 - we're practically neighbors! We live in Branchburg and my D goes to Somerville High School! You've really done your homework and you sound like a very qualified BMC candidate - so keep us posted as your acceptances start rolling in! My D is very glad she went to a smaller high school (her class size is about 260) and wanted a similar environment in college, among other requirements. BMC ended up at the top of her list after visiting other campuses. If she hadn't gotten in ED1, she would have applied to Haverford, Weslyan, Vassar, Wellesley and Mount Holyoke, but Bryn Mawr was her true first choice. Lots of luck!

what is this about BMC not being a selective, well-known college with more status? every educated adult that i have spoken to about my daughter's acceptance at BMC has not only known BMC, but was very impressed. i think that you'll find that to be true once you're out of h.s. too bad that so many high school students sit around memorizing the names of the ivy league colleges and few others.

at b-r, that is exactly what most students do. all you see are large research university/sports/ivy league college shirts. and on any given day, you will definitely see quite a few college shirts.
thanks for giving me some prospective on bryn mawr -i know i was really hoping to be in the lucky 47% accepted or w/e it is, but basically the people i've grown up with only know 8 schools and and maybe jhu, duke, uva, umich, and that's about it.
