I don't think she'll have any problem with the state universities. I'd be interested in your opinions re: UC's, esp. Davis. Oregon is probably her 2nd choice, and may end up being her first, since she wants to major in journalism or communications and they have a solid program for this.

Thanks!

yeah it looks like Oregon will be a good college for her even though she can probably get into the other choices. . good luck

How about her chances at Davis? This is her first choice.

All of your daughters stats are very low for Davis. Average UC GPA there is about 3.9 and average SAT is about 1200. She is low for all UCs. Maybe you should consider a cc for 2 years and then an easy in at a UC. Unless she can convince them in an essay, Merced and Riverside are probably your only UC hopes. My son went through this 3 years ago and went to a cc and is now at UCSD. Good luck!

Other opinions? I know her test scores are low, but wondering if the universities would take into consideration her LD?

Also, she attends an "underperforming" school. In past years, more of our students have been accepted to UC's than in the neighboring, more affluent schools.

Although her test scores seem a bit low, she should be able to receive extra selection points for her learning diability and possibly for her low-performing school, she should also get points for some of her leadership roles. It is so hard to guess how many points, and whether it will be sufficient tomake the cut-off. Also, I read somewhere on this site that UC Davis , as the largest UC, has taken on the task of accepting more students. It looks very hopeful for you daughter. Best of Luck ( did you look at the selection criteria on the UCD site?)

Thanks, jeunger. I've looked at the selection criteria at UCD many times, and I think she has a shot because of the things you mentioned. It's just hard to know what they define as "leadership", "initiative", and "perseverence". If she gets points for those, plus points for having a slight LD (and it is slight, but clearly her test scores don't match her grades), I think that will balance out the lack of points for her low test scores. I guess we'll see!

UCSD is a bit of a reach, (she'd have to have atleast a GPA of 3.8W, and a 1200 SAT score)
UCD is possible, but again she'd have to have higher SAT scores in order to have a stronger chance.
Im almost positive she can get into UCR though, so thats a plus.
