I'm in no clubs, no organizations, no volunteer work, TAGing to UCSB, and applying to UCD, UCB, and UCLA with a 3.67, majoring in Poli Sci (Pre-law).

I may be getting a job at a nursing home, don't know if that counts for anything.

whaaa i thought you were just focused on UCD

and im in the same boat as you as well, ha.

OMG im in the same boat and its killing me. my ass is trying to look for a job or an internship right now, now that summer school is done and all. i was the treasurer of a club, had a seasonal job, and went to an Economics summit but other than that i have nothing. Do 2012 Transfers only have until November to get ECs in?

I’m being totally honest here but you guys do know that most people who apply make up a lot of BS? they work at some organization for 2 hours and they just write down volunteered at so and so. They don’t ask for verification. and during fall, just look for a club or two. and you should be good to go.

@poser yeah you have only until november… fall starts in late august here so Im gonna go on a club hunting mission asap. ive been obviously too focused on the actual important stuff like classes. not all this free labor BS

I barely have any as well! I volunteered at the local animal shelter for a few months and I’m a member of they psych club but we don’t really do anything. Just listen to presentations and such. I had 2 internships a couple years ago (both in the marketing/PR field) but that was before I changed my major from Comm to Psych so I don’t think I should include those anymore. I’m hoping since my GPA is high it will balance out my lack of ECs. Hopefully… lol

I’m on the same boat! Can we write that we were doing private tutor? I heard that there is 10% chance of being selected by UC to check the ECs. How they gonna check this case?

^ It’s better not to lie… IMO
You don’t wanna get rejected + make the UC lost faith in you + may be disqualified from future admission just because of a stupid EC that’s only good for borderline student. Trust me.
Oh, and I am applying with no EC too. We are on the same boat lol

I don’t have any ECs either! I think I’m going to apply for TAG for UCSB as well. Do you guys know if UCSB has a foreign language requirement? I’m just gonna try to write one hell of a personal statement to make up for my lack of everything.

wanna be by that beach huh?

Not really? I already live by a beach haha. It’s just that I think I have a better chance of getting into UCSB than Cal or LA which makes me sad but gotta be realistic

When I applied, the only EC I had listed was tutoring high schoolers but that was just basically my younger cousin and like one or two friends in pre-calc and calc. I don’t think having a crap ton of ECs is too important.

What colleges did you get into?

^ He got into Cal, so that’s much for everyone who wonders abt the importance of ECs
I’m a normal applicant this November, too, and quite frankly I believe EC is nothing compared to GPA and pre-reqs, unless you find a cure for AIDS or play in the Superbowl or sth like that. If I can’t hold a leadership position in a club/ honor societies, I’d rather spend that $75 for AGS at Walmart or BestBuy and get myself a couple of Xbox 360 Games ;). Believe it or not, an alumni from UCLA told me that the school doesn’t give a damn about these clubs unless you do something important in them. Sorry if this offends anyone, just my opinion :)

Long story short, don’t worry no-ECers. You’re gonna be fine.

@snipehunter:
I did tutor my friend and got paid. How can I prove this to them if I were selected?

You really don’t have to prove anything unless you say that you cured cancer or something noteworthy. Any tutoring helps show that you’re giving back in a beneficial way as long as you maintain your grades as well. I tutor because I enjoy the subject so I don’t care about money, as weird as that sounds. No… not Calculus!

@howardw: like Silenthillnight said, yes, that will help you. Tutor is highly recommended, but not an average joe in a nobody-known club ;)

Accepted into bio department at ucla and ucsd with 3.5 gpa and no ec’s.

For those with no EC’s, what did you talk about in your essays?
