Anybody else get their Cal Grant disqualification letter?

I got mine today...how nice. It was about $6000 of the preliminary award notice from UCSD. I better scratch and crawl for some more money now. That, or take out a much bigger loan. The FinAid office said that since I have been denied, they could increase the UCSD Grant, but who knows...

Anybody else get their snazzy letter yet?

Yeah, I received mine shortly before UCLA and Cal announced their decisions. As of today, my financial aid consists of a $500 univeristy grant, $2,500 in subsidized loans per semester, and $15,000 in unsubsidized loans. On top of that, I have yet to hear from the American Cancer Society, California Division about a $5,000 scholarship.

I love how, in this country, the task of paying for your education is a huge freaking headache if your parents aren't at an extreme end of the financial spectrum (provided that you're under 24 years of age, aren't married and/or don't have kids).

I'm 29, married with 2 kids...and still got denied

That is freaking insane. What reason did they provide for the denial in the letter? The reason they provided in my letter was that my household was "above the income ceiling."

pffff....long time ago

They said the reason I got denied was because of a "low score." They use a scoring system that takes into account family size, income, and crap like that. The officer from Cal Student Aid Commisions told me that they apporved about 11,000 of like 100,000. Crazy.

Sorry to hear that, Mikoyle. You've got to love the state and federal administrations' approach towards education and social programs, eh? They can build bridges to nowhere, reduce the taxation of industry to comically low levels, and spend billions on a poorly planned and executed war of convenience ... and at the end of the day they chuckle all the way home when the proles ask for reasonable access to quality healthcare and affordable higher education.

don't worry, the UCSD will be upped. I got denied the CAL grant as a freshman but my UCR grant got substantially upped.
