anybody goin to loomis

any body goin too loomis

A kid at my school is going as a 9th grader.

hopefully…accepted but FA waitlisted

any waitlist movement at Loomis?

Im going as a 9th grade boarder! (as is someone else in my grade at school)

I’m going as a 9th grade boarder too!

But since I live in Malaysia, no one else in my school is (especially since I go to a British School) :P

@mom21: I have a friend who is going and though I’m not completely sure, signs point to her having been accepted off the wait list.

Off of the FA waitlist?

no, I do not think so.

That is the problem they are skipping over kids that were accepted into the schools but waitlisted in need of FA. Why two WL? You would think once you recieved the letter saying congratulations you’ve been accepted it would be smooth sailing. But than you open another letter addressed to parents of: you get the bad news- FA waitlist. We have been told they are working very hard to get our S in but we don’t know the scenerios of how it can still happen. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, the schools’ endowments have taken such a hit that they have to wait and see if they can offer aid. I’m sure they would love to take all of the kids who are waitlisted for FA, they simply don’t have the money right now.

We are very greatful for this oppertunity but it’s very hard to wait. Deadlines have long come and gone. Although we know there is still a chance it would be much easier if we knew what has to play out for it to happen [more donations from alumni, someone to drop out].

I was accepted late admission with full financial aid, and I finally decided on Loomis over Nmh. I made this choice because I was looking for a school that has first-rate academics, motivated students, and strong programs, but did not have the formal, stuck-up feeling of Hotchkiss, deerfield, andover. I was wondering if there are any current students who could give me any related information/opinions on the school.

lookingforschool- Congratulations on your acceptance with full financial aid! That is quite an accomplishment for a late applicant.

And that is one of the things that makes me so crazy with this whole process! I know of at least one other family on this site besides mine that is waitlisted for FA at Loomis and is still waiting. Basically we are being told there is no more money after being accepted but then it comes available and goes elsewhere. I know they can do as they please, it is a private school, but that’s what I hate, not ever knowing what’s really going on.

I am truly happy for you lookingforschool and I’m not trying to take it out on you but the whole FA waitlist thing is just wrong.

I’m really sorry to hear that. It doesn’t sound like a fair process at all. When I interviewed, I was told that they had overextended their aid budget and would most likely be unable to give any more, but a few days later they called to say that their headmaster had approved a larger aid budget to help students affected by the economic crisis. I really hope that the school will give that as many people as it can. Best of luck.

did you apply as a late applicant. how late?

Sorry but questionable and just sounds too familiar.

Scotland45, Have you followed up with the AO and continue to stress how important it is for d/s to get FA so can attend?. Sometimes a sense of immediacy may help w/respect to a particular case.

erlanger- Oh yes we have followed up, repeatedly, I might add. I have met personally with the FA officer, called repeatedly and written. What else can I do?

I think I’ll write a book about this process, make a bunch of money, and not have to apply for FA with the next 2 boys!

I have tales to share for your book–it’s definitely its own world and not necessarily intuitive or straightforward. Maybe there is someone else (a teacher, friend, alum, etc.) who could advocate for your case.
