Anybody Got into UC Berkeley and NOT Going?

A lot of people have been calling me crazy. :P

I'm going to Boston College. Anybody else turning down Cal for somewhere else?

BOSTON COLLEGE?! WOW! over UC BERKELEY?.. Well whatever decision you make, good luck, and Cheers!

Why not UC Berkeley? I got in and I’m going! I also got into every other UC, but why not go to the best one?

I know a couple of my friend choose UCLA over Cal because of better major or location. I think it is not that uncommon.

yeah, I chose ucla over the other ucs.

I chose UCLA over Cal as well, mainly because I’d rather be in LA than the bay.
I don’t think choosing BC over Cal is a big deal, they’re both well respected. I would choose Cal over BC because it would costs less for me, but if you’re not from California or cost isn’t an issue, then do what makes you happy.

Rankings w.hores will disagree with this, but I think it makes absolutely no difference whether you have an undergrad degree from Cal, UCLA or BC. They’re all very well respected schools and will all grant you all the same opportunities. But the weather is nicer in LA :D

i want to stab you

It’ll bear more weight if she wants to work on the east coast.

i.e. my friends from NY don’t really see going to UCLA as a big deal, but it’s a lot more prestigious here on the west coast.

wait, have you even been around boston college before? if you have and you made this choice and if you are from CA, then I can’t hold anything against you, but that is a really weird decision

Me. Probably going to UCLA because of the location.

That’s ****ed up.

A degree from Cal or UCLA gets you a job nationwide, and to some extent, worldwide. A BC degree isn’t as marketable as a degree from Cal. Factor in CoL, the fact that she’d be paying in state at Cal, and better research opportunities + ranked higher than BC at everything is enough of a reason to choose Cal over BC. Now, if its personal preferences like location and the amount of “white boys”, then the decision can be more difficult.

GrizzSon is taking full ride to UNC over minimal aid at Cal. More $$$ left over for grad school. :)

Not only did i reject Berkeley, I rejected their most competitive program Haas.

soccerdude, where are you going instead? and what made you reject Haas?

Chose UCLA over Cal as well

I am a theater major; I chose UCLA over Cal and USC.

I chose BC over Cal because at Cal I’ll be one of the innumerable Asians. BC is a new and smaller location. And besides, I don’t plan on pursuing a career after B.A. anyway, I’m going straight to law school.

And no, the cost isn’t really an issue because I’m an international student although I’ve lived in CA for a long time. The difference in price isn’t much…my sister pays even more than BC for Harvey Mudd, for which she turned down UCLA w/ Honors.

At least my dad can hold the UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSD acceptance letters to his chest and not feel too horrible about his daughter. :P

I got into every UC I applied to (that is, three), and if I didn’t get into BC I would have gone to what I consider is the best UC, which is Berkeley. :)

^^ out of curiosity, why did u choose BC over CAL?.. i got into CAl and i would never let tht option go out of my hands?
was it the
1/ out of state ~40K tuition fee at Boston?
2/ cal is ranked 21 at usnews and boston is 69 (i think)
… any other reason?

this decision reminds me of that windows commercial where some bloke/girl chooses a HP or something else over a mac… when u know tht mac is the better option as it offers a bunch of other cool features.
