Anybody have questions for a current student?

There’s very limited info about the visual arts (Media) program at UCSD… If you know anything, anything about the program please share it with me! Thx in advance!

Unfortunately don’t know anything about it  Sorry.

I applied(cc transfer) in 2015 and I am enrolling in Fall 2016(hopefully). Currently, my GPA is 3.61. Before fall, my GPA was 4.0. I got a C on calculus and a GE class. Otherwise, I got almost all A’s and few pass. My major is economics. Few extra curricular, pretty good personal statement. Igetc will be done by end of the spring. Chance me please! @stevoleeto

Hmm, I’m not too sure. Is the Econ department impacted?

Bioengineering hopeful here. Anything I should expect assuming that I get accepted? UCSD is one of my top choices

Bioengineering is among the top in the world and incredibly difficult to get into…

So if you don’t get in don’t beat up on yourself, and if you get in then make the best of it.

How much of an annoyance is it that Regents scholars get first pick on registering for classes?

@ProudDad1357 It’s not annoying at all. One of my good friends was a regents scholar… And seeing him get hooked up with all sorts of things at first frustrated me. But at the end of the day he was an incredibly smart dude, first person to go to college in his family, and a lot of other big things. He definitely deserved it.

When classes are ~200 people big, a few getting early enrollment means absolutely nothing.

Ooohh what a coincidence, a CSE Muir student! May I ask your opinion on which GE should I take? I still need a 3 courses sequence from either Humanities or Foreign Language. I created a thread yesterday - http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-san-diego/1867451-muir-humanities-foreign-lang.html Thanks!

@Flyer888 awesome! I transferred in with ALL GE’s taken, so only had to take my one required Muir Writing class. With that said, I unfortunately know nothing about GE classes so I’d the the wrong person to ask. I’d go with what sounds most interesting to you though. If you’re interested enough, any class can be easy.

@stevoleeto

What do you have to say about UCSD being “socially dead”? From what I’ve seen, SD seems to focus research and academics, with student life as sort of an afterthought. Is that true?

It’s most definitely not socially dead. Is it the most socially active campus in so cal? No.

If your serious about getting an amazing education, this is the place to be. I partied hard back in high school and community college, and am now 110% dedicated to my education. I study day in day out 7 days a week know haha.

So I’m technically “socially dead” myself. With that said, I have plenty of friends who are always partying on campus, especially in the village. It’s college, it’s what you make of it.

I have a friend who posts a lot snapchats of parties and she’s not in any sorority.

Is it normal for applicants to be able to access The off-campus housing portal and have a UCSD.edu email?

I’ve heard a lot about this in the UCSD Transfer forum but I didn’t see any email when I tried it. General consensus is it doesn’t really mean anything.

Honestly it’s just best to assume any of those weird things means nothing @knguyen1297. I’m not sure I even know what portal you’re talking about.

What goes on during transfer triton day? The website just has some pretty general stuff.

Honestly my transfer triton day was the real decision making event for me. I was sitting through the department overview for my major (CS) and was completely blown away, and it definitely left an impact on me.

It’s fun to see the campus, being surrounded by so many admitted transfers, and checking out the school… I would definitely recommend going.

How much of your college do you get to see? Is someone from the college there or do you have to wait until the orientation later?

Representatives for the colleges are definitely there, although I didn’t find their presentations all to interesting… Especially as a transfer student where it means very little.

I spent a lot of time within my major department (CSE) and their different talks etc.
