i heard from the professor in my econ 3b class today that they were gonna make some changes to the econ-related majors (econ, econ math(i think), and bus econ)? like, after a year or something it's gonna be "economics and accounting" instead of "bus econ w/ accounting" while the current pre-major students will be able to choose between the two. (he said that there's only one or two courses here that are business-related). also, they wanna raise the minimum pre-major GPA requirement from 2.85 to 3.00 (although it seems like this part is gonna fall through). anyway, i'm just interested in the name changes and wondering what other changes will there be other than the names of the majors? i was talking to a friend just a few days ago that they should just have a seperate major for accounting rather than having it as an emphasis. so, has anybody heard of this?

I’m not in favor. Accounting should be separate, then business/econ a self declared major. Not everyone who is majors in biz/econ wants accounting to be in the mix as well.
Is it just me, or does UCSB stress accounting way too much?

Yea, I know they are going to raise the Minimum GPA to a 3.0 for sure. I haven’t heard anything about having a separate accounting major though. I personally don’t think that is going to happen.

Yes. UCSB does stress a lot on the accounting because the program is being supported by all the accounting firms. The accounting students from UCSB are pretty competitive in going against the large accounting strong holds like USC and UCLA, I am not sure you can say that about our economics department.

This is excellent news for me, because accounting is exactly what I want to pursue.

Will this affect me if I transfer there this upcoming fall (as a junior)?

^i dont know.

i don’t think they’r gonna have a separate accounting major either. i personally want an “econ and accounting” major though. i think it kinda sounds better than “business econ w/ accounting” lol, since it’s now part of the major, not just an additional emphasis. + I still have a passion for economics xD. so if they had a separate accounting major then i’d probably just end up double-majoring lol.
