~~~I don't care about the plot/epiphanies/revelations/mind-blowing truths about why we wear underwear, because for the most part, I am first concerned with the visual, and the visual, for me, is anything but pleasing.
~~
Well aren't you the ignorant one then?
~~~~And no matter what any anime-lover says, there is not a single anime that is anatomically correct with perfect scientific linear point of perspective, perfect recession into depth, perfect contrapposto, perfect use of space.
~~~
Not a single anime that is anatomically correct. Sure....I'll remember that the next time I watch Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade. And even so...it's a ****ing animated piece of work...why the hell do you even care about perfect scientific linear point? Are you doing a school project? I can go on, but there really is no REAL importance to anatomically correct artwork.
~~~~~~
NoFX: I do accept that people are different...but when people just randomly spout "I HATE ANIME CUZ OF POKEMON AND YU-GI-OH" it just makes my stomach churn. That's like saying you hate cartoons cuz of Spongebob, or hate movies because of Star Wars.
~~~
All in all....I just want to say that you people should really look at anime for what it's worth and not just something to watch, read, or draw. I'm sure if we were debating on another type of art or animation or anything else for that matter, you guys would still be debating as much on this.
VisionofSand, why don't you mosey down over to the "Anybody here an anime lover" thread? This is our thread so why don't you leave us alone eh? Its not like us haters are going over to that thread to mess it up or anything.
I used to like anime/manga (what is the difference anyways?), but then I realized how weird it was. It's like you fantasize about cartoons. Yuck. When a guy gets turned on by a cartoon showing a little ass... it just freaks me out.
Umm... I don't know about you, but I don't spend most of my time getting turned on by any anime I watch. But then again, I like action and more violent stuff usually.
Okay, I generalized a bit. But I know guys that put up posters of girls with short skirts and skanky tops, and describe her as "hella fine." This just really bothers me. If anime wasn't so sexual, I wouldn't dislike it as much. But I'm not entertained by cartoons in general. Except the little anime parts in Kill Bill were pretty sweet.
rahulnirmal2000: Because I like to defend my point and at least try to enlighten some of the ignorant people here about all of this. Plus if I just went up and left without saying anything, it's make me look like a poser.
Now you guys may already think of me as a poser as it is, but I don't really care either way.
blythe89: Looks like you generalized again it seems, because even though there is a lot of sexual inuendos and connotations in anime, it's not the majority of it, suprisingly. And for the anime-chicks turning on guys.....you DO know there are a lotta chicks who do the same thing to anime guys, right? For example...this one manga called "Angel Sanctuary" has a few girl-friends that I know drooling over "Lucifer"...who is obviously the guy who we all believe he is, but he's so damn hot that none of them care. shrugs
When you think about it...(aside from anime characters not being real) the fascination with anime guys/girls is not too different than those people you come across who have the hots for celebrities. They may display their emotions on it one way or another (or too many), but heck, oh well.
However I think the big reason is because most of those who are REALLY REALLY having the hots for certain characters are those who can relate to events/emotions similar to what happened to the character itself. It may seem silly, but it's just an honest thing (I guess) when you start to feel for something that has gone through the same drama in life as you have...or vice versa.
Really if you're going to bash anime on this subject, that's one thing...but if you guys really want something to be disturbed about; look at those people who look up something called "Furry"...which are animal-like-humans. Basically, animals that stand on their hind legs like humans do and do things like we do. Even....have sex. throws up Sorry..I do not wish to see a random bunny and horse go at it, thank you.
But yeah..there's more of my pointing-out of things.
Again...as far as I'm concerned... no worse than a pin-up drawing from the early 20th century. It's all art.
But yeah, still a little weird. Besides, MOST anime is not sexualized. I think a lot of that has to do with weird teenage white boy Asian fetishes.
Why is it always the eyes you people complain about? Jesus...
Look at some of the random cartoons on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. If they're not as big as those in anime, they're disgustingly small and/or disproportioned. Example: Rugrats/All-Grown-Up.
I meant that I don't like the sexual anime at all because it is so creepy. And I just used the guys checking out girls thing as an example. Trust me. I know how girls love the cartoon boys too well. Eek. When I said that I hate all cartoons, it included those awful cartoon pin-ups. I have an exfriend who dressed like the boyfriend of the girl anime character that he thought was so perfect. He had posters of her, compared her to other girls, and constantly told me why she was sooooo perfect. I told him that she was a drawing. A good piece of artwork. Not something that should be thought of as an object of affection. He got upset and we haven't really spoken since. Eh...oh well.
"When you think about it...(aside from anime characters not being real) the fascination with anime guys/girls is not too different than those people you come across who have the hots for celebrities. They may display their emotions on it one way or another (or too many), but heck, oh well."
Please explain to me how being in love with a drawing is "not too different" then being in love with a REAL LIVE PERSON who is famous. I don't seem to understand.
I kept wondering what evil powers anime has to just corrupt some people and make them act like complete, total retarded losers like some fantasizing over anime girl characters or dressing up as em or whatever. Ughh....
Haha. Hey hey hey. I like chocolate, watching basketball, and reading. And I've learned to like you. I just think of you as Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice.
When have I ever shown a propensity to hate everybody or "implacable resentment?" Besides, I'm not unsocial or taciturn, as he is described in the book. That, and I converse quite easily with new people.
I don't mind the label as much as I just don't agree with it.
I'm the one arguing for open-mindedness, willingness to see art in a wider variety of media, and a liberal interpretation of what constitutes "entertainment," and I hate everyone?
