Anybody here live in a crappy state...like Iowa?

I live in Iowa. Born and raised. And I LOVE it! I repeat: I LOVE it!

People are friendly. They wave and make eye contact. I'm from a town of roughly 14,000 so I'm by no means from a town with just one stop sign, but I love the country aspects of Iowa life. Okay, so I grew up on a farm. Big deal. So I go to Iowa State (i can hear you all gasping b/c someone goes there from these boards ;)) Back to the eye contact: A good friend of mine is attending Stanford and during the first phone call we had after school started he mentioned how it was weird that almost NOBODY made eye contact unless they knew you. Even when talking to them. Few smile politely on the street.

I've got family values, religious values, politics I'm a little iffy--moderate/independent I guess.

City people drive me nuts. People who complain because they built a house downwind of the farmer who raises hogs, they bother me. Eminent domain is my worst nightmare!!

Anyway, enough of my rant.

I'll say it again: I LOVE Iowa!

south florida.
immigrants + old ppl + humidity + you cant afford chillin in miami!!! ... all are cancelled out by dwyane wade & his sexiness - oh, and the palm trees. cant forget the stupid palm trees. :)

Cards4Life, can I ask where in Iowa?

What! A person from Iowa who likes Iowa! I've heard of such people, but never seen one...j/k. Cards fan hmmmmmm....I though everyone liked the Cubs. Where you from Cards? What HS you go to?

Indianola. what about you guys

Oh, and us Cardinals fans are few and far between....so sad. So frickin sad. haha...but we all know who's the better baseball team :)

CF for me. I can't believe you like this place. There's a farm behind my house, and it pretty much sucks.

Yes, I must admit the Cubs suck harder than Paris Hilton. Are you a clown fan? Errrr, I mean Cyclone (just givin you a hard time). I rep Cr Kenn. No farms here, just Trailer Parks, Denny's, and the Chili with Frito-Lays Wrap from Sonic's. Yuck.

I live in Georgia. I don't like it. Stupid non white Christmas.

I hate snow.

so do I .

But..you can make snowmen!

I live in Hawaii.

I want to go to U of Iowa.

I want to study writing.

Anything I should know?

Forget it Pug

They will never understand.

You should know that U Iowa has the best creative writing program anywhere.
You should also know that Iowa sucks.
J/k, I'm not here to discourage anyone, have you visited?
PM me if you have any specific questions or anything.

You should know that the second biggest malls in Iowa is located near UIowa, and it's one floor with maybe 50 stores.

Though there is an iceskating rink by it.

And the Hu Hut is pretty tasty as well.

UIowa has great creative writing, journalism, and English programs. It pains me to say that...because I go to Iowa State! Go Clones! :) Oh and I LOVE snow! I'm kinda depressed that we don't have any...except the man made stuff at the "ski resorts" aka Big Hills

I live in Atlanta (not Georgia... Atlanta. People living here get this.) So, no, I don't really live in a small, sucky, podunk place.

I've never been anywhere near Iowa. I know it has a great creative writing program but I am very nervous because it's in.....IOWA!

Any other comments about the area surrounding U of Iowa.
Weather?
People?
What's popular?
Anything?

Weather = Hot summers (mid-80's by 9 AM not unusual); I would guess that average temps in summer are in the range of 80 to 105. July and August are hot and humid. Fall is awesome ~70s. Winter is winter. It usually snows a decent amount...although this year is horrible and there's no snow :(. Spring is fairly rainy but not bad and there have days of 100 degrees in late March and blizzards in late April. My 15th birthday (end of April) was during a 4-day blizzard that closed school for four days.
People are great, most of the time. Friendly, some people need to learn how to drive, hold the doors open for you, etc. If you get out into the small towns people tend to be more conservative, although Iowa City is arguably the most liberal city in the state.
Popular? If you're into sports, you'll fit in great! Even if you're not, you'll fit in great! Shopping is pretty big...Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville, by Iowa City. Jordan Creek Town Center by Des Moines. You'll see alot of farm related activities almost anywhere...John Deere shirts, tractors on the 2-lane highways, etc. Honestly, I'm not too familiar with "city life" but clubbing is pretty popular and tailgating and drinking are immensely popular in Iowa City.
Yeah that's all I got for now...
