I'm really considering iowa but have heard some bad things because it has a graduate program. And them it's cornell COLLEGE, not the big university. I've heard some good stuff about that too. I want to go into acting, directing, and then maybe technical theatre. Thanks!

I don’t know anything about U of Iowa, but my daughter was accepted at Cornell College and we spent two days visiting. She enjoyed sitting in on a theatre class, talking to professors, singing with the chorus and meeting the theatre majors when she spent the night in the dorm. The theater building and the commons area are brand new and very nice. The rest of the campus (except for the gym complex) is historic. One student we talked to had a job lined up in NYC when he graduated, I think in puppetry. He had done an internship through CC, which led to the job. CC has very generous scholarships for voice and theatre. My daughter liked the school but will be attending somewhere else in the fall. The small campus and the small town felt a little too confining to her.

We drove through the Iowa campus just to see it, and it would be a whole different college experience. I think the trade off is more connections and options vs a personalized liberal arts experience. Staying on both campuses would be the best way to decide.

I also meant to say that I had some luck asking about performing arts on the Cornell College specific forum.
