do you like it? is it really hard? r the people in the major cool?

I'm only a sophomore, but I've taken 4 econ classes so far, which is about one third of the major requirements. I've become more interested in economics now that I've taken several classes. It's not too hard so far, but you do have to study a bit in the upper division courses to get a good grade. The department isn't the greatest in terms of professors; I've heard a lot about bad professors I shouldn't take but not so much about great professors I should definitely take, but that could be because I haven't taken any elective courses yet. Some of the TAs aren't very good at explaining stuff, and a lot of them have foreign accents (doesn't bother me, but to some it's an issue), but that's probably true for several other CLAS majors, like math and computer science, as TAs are usually graduate students.

Some of the electives in the economics department sound really interesting. Prof. Richard Easterlin, who teaches Econ 432 - Economics of Happiness, is a popular professor and was recently "tapped" by Mortar Board for excellence in teaching.

I guess econ majors are cool :). There's a wide variety of people, and I'm sure you would find someone to connect with.

I was considering switching to Econ from Business, but from most peope I've talked to, Econ majors have a reputation for being the ones that couldn't get into Marshall.

That isn't to say that that is fact true, just what the rep is.

that reputation is out there even though it is wrong. Marshall's "elite" standards are a 3.0 overall and a B or higher in all pre-reqs. So elite that they only accepted 25% of the undergraduate population. yeah real hard to get in...
