anybody wanna help?

I have to decide between Drexel, Lehigh, Bucknell and the University of Scranton. I'm also waitlisted at the University of Pennsylvania.
I want to major in biology and go for premed and I'd like to minor in Spanish if possible. I'd like study abroad available and an intersting campus, and to be able to get to ny and philly (if not drexel) easily bc I have family there.
Pretend money doesn't matter, I'll make it work... anyone have some advice?

Hi abcdef12345,

First of all, I think that I have friends that goes to all those colleges you listed except the university of scranton. I really can’t compare the biology programs at those schools because I don’t know much about them, but I can tell you that Drexel’s bio/pre-med program is top notch and having co-ops (real jobs) at a top notch hospitals looks very good for applying to med schools. All those schools that you named besides drexel makes commuting to new york and philly ridiculous. You are talking a very long commute only by car (especially bucknell).

Great thing about Drexel besides of the resources in Philadelphia and the tons of hospitals here you can take advantage of is the short and easy trip to New York City. One block away from Drexel’s campus is 30th street station, a huge train station that has AMTRAK trains that goes express right to New York City even as quick as one hour. You can also take SEPTA/NJ Transit although you’d make a few more stops, and have to transfer, and it would be about 2.5 hours although its only around $15 each way. (take a look at the following website: [NJ TRANSIT & SEPTA can get you to the fun!](http://www.njtransit.com/septa/)). If you do travel to new york city by car, you simply cross the bridge and take the turnpike up the whole way, the average time for me to get from drexel to manhattan is around 1 hour and 45 minutes.

There are also a few buses including philadelphia’s chinatown bus that goes to new york/boston/dc etc, and the regular buses. Very simply, Drexel is the #1 school anywhere in Pennsylvania for getting to new york city.

Drexel has a very big and expanding study abroad programs. Opportunities also open up if you minor in spanish. I actually just came back from a week long drexel program in Chile, and I believe they are trying to establish a study abroad program there. To look at all the study abroad programs, go here: https://drexel.studioabroad.com/

I don’t know what school is best for you. It really depends what type of campus/environment you want. Just from how you sound, wanting to have access to Philadelphia’s and New york’s resources, a city college especially with the co-op program might be a better fit. Visit all the campuses, talk to some bio faculty at every school, think of what will work out better in the long run for you, get a feel for how the students like it, and go with your gut. Feel free to message me and I can give you the e-mail addresses of my friends at drexel that are bio students if you have any specific questions about the drexel program. hope this helps and good luck!

thanks soo much for all the info! I think my top choices are Lehigh and Drexel, only thing about lehigh is that I heard theres not much to do on weekends but frat parties, which im not really too into… The University of Scranton is pretty good for pre-med but I live there lol and im kind of looking foward to being independent. But im going for accepted students days soon which I think will ulitmately make my decision… Thats such a coincidence about Chile b/c I had a student teacher in Spanish last year that went there and showed us a presentation and ever since i kind of wanted to go… well thanks again you were a big help =]!
