Anybody want to start talking about the Academy?

Hey, I am an official candidate with a lot of my application finished and just waiting for congressional interviews. I’d love to talk to anyone on the same track as me if you’re willing.
Thanks
Ryan

Sure, I too am an official candidate. Already have a presidential nomination and interviews with the Congressman's office are in November. I my application will be complete when they get my SAT scores from October. I went to SS #1 - C-1 if I remember correctly. What are your stats?

...and I have also completed my DoDMERB successfully.

Hey man!

That's awesome. It must be nice already knowing you have a nomination! I went to SS session 1 also, I was in A-2.

I sent in the requests from Dodmerb last week, so I am checking regularly to see when they post them. My candidate files are both complete for the Air Force and the Naval Academy. I have already sent out a nominational request to my congressman, and I will be sending others to my senators this week.

Everythings going pretty smoothly, I'm just trying not to stress out to much about all of this. My ALO's been really great through all of this also.

What do you want to do in the Air Force?
What's your background? You live.....???

Anyways, Im glad you responded. Look forward to talking with you more.

RYAN

It is nice to have someone to talk to about USAFA that I'm not directly competing with. At my school there are 8 ppl applying, so people are rather competitive.

I think I want to do Intelligence or Space Ops in the AF (majoring in Economics and Math), but my first choice would be navy. I live in Northern Virginia, about 20 minutes from DC.

What other schools are you looking at?

I'm applying to the naval academy, and also the University of Washington. I live in Northwest Washington, pretty close to the border. I plan on majoring in mechanical engineering, and the UW is a great engineer school. So you are also applying to the naval academy, and you would select to go there instead of the air force? I also plan on going into pilot training after the academy.

Wow 8 people from one school? Good luck with that...I feel blessed.... haha.

Do you play any sports?

RYAN

I used to play lacrosse, but now I just do XC and indoor/outdoor track. I think I would choose Navy (only navy requires me to get a vision waiver, so I am in "limbo") over AF, but right now everything seems uncertain to me. My current plan is to see who deems me to be worthy and then make a decision based upon that shorter (hopefully not too short!) list.

Mechanical engineering is neat. SS really opened my eyes to engineering and Astro seemed to be very interesting. The whole idea of making a satellite and seeing it go into space as a college student is very cool.

Good Afternoon,

I Applied To The Academy Last Year, But I Didn't Get In. How's Everything Going With You?

Its going well.

What kind of stats did you have??? I'm just curious. Are you applying again? Where do you live?

Attended summer seminar week 1, had my interview, it went fairly well, passed all tests for DODMERB qualifications, all nomination packets were in by August, LORs are in, passed PAE, did way above average on flexed arm hang, push-ups, and b-ball throw, just fair on the other two. I'm also applying for an AF ROTC scholarship to either Illinois, Michigan or Notre Dame. Just labored over the four essay questions, handed in my writing sample (teacher loved it but I thought it was pretty lame). I think I can finally exhale. Am I forgetting anything???? Anyone else chomping at the bit?

I thought the whole graded essay part of the app was a little strange...no other school asks for anything like that.
