what minimum score you should get on SAT if you want to apply to these 2 schools?

and whose medical facility is better?

thanks.

for both, bare minimum, 700 on each section

to be very competitive, i would say like a 720-730, on all sections, i am saying, like a 1450 sat

thank you bball87 !

one more question?

what is the minimum GPA?
and how to calculate it?

If you go to a public school you should be ranked in the top 10% to even be in consideration, but being among the top 5% is very helpful.

is there a whole lot difference between 10%and 11~13%

Lower 25% had 670V/690M, so the lowest you can go is probably low 600s.

Of course, those with 600s must have had awe-inspiring everything else or a really good reason for their inability to score high on the SATs (ie: blindness, deafness, both arms are broken, you're a Chinese immigrant who didn't know English, etc.).

You are not very competitive at those schools with a 1450 when the average is about 1500. Yes, there are lids with 1400s, but they are recruited athletes, URMs, prodigies and development candidates. Even most legacies need the 1500.

the average is not a 1500 at duke or stanford.....

at duke, it is like a 1450, that means 50 below, 50 above

plenty of students from my hs. got into duke with low 1400s...Duke gives out substantial merit aid to really top kids...so they can afford to take kids lower on the boards...

When did they get in with 1450S? average for this year's class is 1490. Comparable with all both the bottom 2 ivies--cornell and penn. Half of the class at top colleges is comprised of recruited athletes, URMs, children of the rich and famous, legacies and prodigies with national or international awards. The uhooked are likely to have way above average stats for the class. Top 2-3% as opposed to top 10%, 1550 as opposed to 1490.

is duke really at a 1490, wow, thats impressive, thats news to me

And about the merit $$$, everyone I know with merit offers this year, including myself, had 2350 plus and really unusual ECs/experiences.

Average SAT's for assorted Ivies and Duke:
Dartmouth: 1360 - 1550
Duke: 1370 - 1550
Penn: 1340 - 1520
Columbia: 1330 - 1530
Brown: 1330 - 1530
Cornell: 1290 - 1480

So yeah, Duke's selectivity is around Penn's, Columbia's, and Dartmouth's which are the ones it usually shares applicants with. So to get into Duke you would likely need to be able to get into Columbia or Brown or Dartmouth. Whereas to get into Stanford you'd need to be able to get into like Harvard or Yale or one of the most selective Ivies. Just leaving a helpful comparison.

So then around 1490 would be competitive for Stanford?

thanks everyone!

so to be competitive for Stanford, you want to get at least 1500 on the old SAT, right?

^I think you can be competitive with a bit lower than that when you judge by the average stats of the admitted freshman class, but those have probably gotten a little higher. I'd say + or - 1500.

I think the avg SAT at Duke is 1420ish, its not 1500!

Wouldn't it be half-way between the 25-75 of 1380-1550? So around 1450-1460...or so?

Yeah, you're right.
