ahh, I'm valedictorian and need to write a speech. My english teacher says I need to address the scope of the class and speak like I'm representing them, and not be too personal. The problem is I don't know enough of my class to say anything specific, and I know saying general stuff is really boring, and, well, generic. I wanted to write something on the personal side and RELATE it to the class, because at least it can be more interesting, but I really don't know what is expected in a valedictory speech. So, is there anybody in my same boat or has anyone written a speech already and can lend some advice?

Isn't it a little too late to start?

nah. I have a little over three weeks.

Search google for valedictorian speeches. I am also valedictorian as of now, and I have been thinking about it. I was thinking about making a video with a bunch of memories, but it would be my voice talking in the background. IMO, that is more interesting than someone standing up there talking. Good luck to you

that would be cool, and would eliminate the whole public-speaking issue, haha. but that would only work if it were raining and we were inside:(

Hmm, if you're outside, you could always start out with something catchy, like, "My, what a FINE day it is!" Our salutatorian walked up to the podium and stood their staring at her speech for about three seconds before saying that. Ours was inside though.

My daughter searched graduation speech and valedictory speech, etc. to try to get ideas and to get in the frame of mind to write. Imagine her surprise when she heard a big part of one of the speeches that she read on the Internet word for word from another speaker at her graduation!!!

haha, that would be hilarious. My graduation is inside, so they project the class video up there anyways. If I have to actually do a speech, I'll make it like 30 seconds long, haha.

yikes! my graduation is on the 9th and i haven't even started my speech yet...i just can't get into the mood to write...i think i'll talk about diversity and how it's a great thing or something?... #3 in the class and #2 in the class speak before me, so i can't make my speech too similar to theirs... anyone else have any more ideas?

I delivered my salutatorian speech day-before yesterday, and it turned out to be really good! It was very heartfelt. :)
