Hi, I was looking at assist.org for UCSB's Econ/Accounting major and at the top it says:
"[Students] must complete the following courses with a 2.75 grade-point average, with no
individual grade less than C: microeconomics, macroeconomics, and either two
calculus courses or one calculus course and one statistics course"

I'm asking this because there are two other pre-reqs which would be financial accounting and managerial accounting. Has anyone gotten in without completing the accounting classes? I'm sure UCSB doesn't favor an applicant without them but since they aren't absolutely required, has it been done?

I'm also asking this because I heard that once transfers get into the pre-major for econ/accounting, they only have one class left which is a very tough Econ 10a (weeder class) and since CC gpa doesn't transfer over, students must get a B or above to stay in the major. Talk about risky, right?

Yes.
I got into Econ and Accounting without the Managerial Accounting pre-req.
I finished everything else, and Financial Accounting is in progress now.

But I’m not going. I applied for it as a backup.

For Econ and Accounting, if you meet the pre-major screen of a 2.75 in micro, macro, stats, and calc, or both calc and you are a competitive applicant to the campus you will be admitted to that major. If you are missing even one of the required courses but have a GPA of 4.0 you will not be admitted. Financial and Managerial Accounting can be completed before or after transfer. This will not affect your admission. Once you transfer you must complete the pre-reqs, but the only courses factored into the pre-major GPA are whatever you have left to complete of Econ 10A, 3A, and 3B. You must have a B- or better average in these courses that you complete at UCSB to move into full major status.

Wow, thank you for an extremely concise and thorough reply. I may be going out on a limb here, but what GPA is considered “competitive” specifically for Econ/Accounting after completing the 4 required classes. Also, how much of a boost would having Calc 2 done (as opposed to a 4 on AP Stats like me)? Thank you again for your wealth of knowledge
