My application has been complete since October 15th, and I am really anxious to hear back!!

Has anyone heard back that is outside of the top 10%?

Just a little about me....

Did all 3 essays, Essay C detailed obstacles faced in high school as my sister attempted multiple suicides (hoping this will make up for poor GPA)

Intended major: Bio
2nd choice: Psych

How do my chances look? Should I expect to hear back soon? Anyone else in a similar situation?

well, i heard this one kid with like a 3.1 W gpa and a 2210 SAT got in. and he wuz like in the 2nd quartile. but ur stats are way higher than his so i’m pretty sure you have a really good shot. have you applied already? this kid had all his materials in by early Sep. so i think that’s one reason as to how he got in. good luck!

collegebound, it could be because of the major you applied for. If your 1st choice is a restricted major, it could be a while until they fill the 75% of the class and know what their numbers are.

Your stats look great - you sound like you just have the unfortunate situation of going to a very competitive school You should get in, I would hope so, with that ACT score!!

Yeah I applied early October, everything was in by the 15th of October, and it has said “we are currently reviewing your application” for quite some time.

And dang, early September? I feel like I should have applied earlier :/

I put 1st Choice : Biology (Natural Sciences)
2nd Choice : Psychology (Liberal Arts)
Is that considered a restricted major?

I’m out of the top ten percent and I applied in late October and heard back on November 1-I was accepted.

SAT scores: 730 (CR), 750 (Math) and 770 (Writing). My school reports the top ten percent but apart from that, doesn’t rank. I only have four ECs and not a lot of fancy awards so there’s definitely hope- my ECs weren’t nearly as impressive as yours.

The essays make or break you with stats like yours collegebound, so your stats aren’t the problem if you don’t get admitted. Good luck!

Tim I’m pretty sure the adcom used their nifty formula to assign you a rank and that’s why you heard back already. Clearly you have good stats and it’s likely you’d be in the top 10% if your school ranked, right?

Nope, our school DOES report the top 10% but it doesn’t actually give a rank, just whether you’re in or out of the top 10%. I’m NOT in the top 10% but was still admitted so there is hope for people not in the top 10%/

College of natural sciences lets in a TON of people. It’s very easy to get into, but it’s a very tough college since science majors do have harder intro science classes than non-majors and the upper-division classes are very tough as well. You won’t have a problem getting in I think, especially with that high an ACT score, and awesome EC’s.

tim739-- great SAT scores! That was probably one of the biggest deciding factors.

I don’t believe bio or psych are restricted majors, especially bio. However, if you choose to switch majors into psych from another college, you have to have already taken (or currently are taking) PSY 301 to apply. So keep that in mind your 1st semester here.

i had two spelling mistakes in my C essay… forgot “a” in between two words and made “text book” two separate words. will these play a deciding factor???

Just looked at the website and the admissions deadline is fastly approaching (12/15). Seems like some non-top10ers might be getting an unexpected early Christmas present.
