My son is currently a junior and is interested in majoring in music technology, audio recording technology, or sound engineering. Anyone out there been accepted to a program? Can you tell me where? How competitive was it? Any information at all would really be appreciated.

My D is going to NYU Steinhardt for violin performance and is interested in doing a minor in Record Producing at Tisch. Most of the more technical sound recording / engineering courses seem to be offered in intensive summer workshops.

I would think a major in that program would be pretty cool. Search for Clive Davis Record Producing at NYU.

There are lots of programs: http://www.aes.org/education/geodir.cfm.

You might want to check a recent discussion in this forum. Most of the recording jobs are in radio/TV or recording studios. Typically, these jobs are not real desirable, don't pay well and do not require a college degree. The more desirable jobs are usually related to engineering. These would include things like microphone and speaker design and acoustical engineering. I suspect acoustical engineering will be a growth field. As the population density grows, acoustical design and noise abatement will become important considerations.

So has anyone on this thread been accepted to a music technology/audio recording program anywhere?

Northwestern's School of Communication has a certificate program in Sound Design. My son majored in TV/Film and took several sound courses and did an LA internship with a sound studio.
