Anyone accepted to CAL/UCLA without finishing Pre-req??

I was wondering if there were anyone who applied/or accepted to ucla/cal without finishing the pre-req for engineering. Bascially classes like differential eqs and magnetism and optics. Also is there a place that says, "you must finish the math series and physics series".

I think the Op is asking is there anyone here that got in without doing all the pre-reqs.

I answered the last line of his post. Looking at what i quoted, i would assume this also answers the initial question as well. The acceptance rate to engineering is pretty low for berkeley so it would be quite difficult to remain competitive without completing all the prereqs since a large portion of the applicant pool have them completed.

yea, I was asking if anyone here actually got in without finishing all the pre-req? I really want to do civil engineering but won’t finish all the math classes (only differential remaining) and physics classes (waves and optics remaining). I really stuck and don’t want to stay at my stupid JC for another semister :(

Do you qualify for any other south campus majors? Once in, it seems like students have some flexibility in changing majors, assuming good academic standing.

If you have a high GPA, you should apply regardless if you have a few prereqs left.

^ Agree with this, apply but just don’t get your heart set on going and be crushed if you don’t get in. The top UC’s are VERY strict with pre-reqs when it comes to engineering (which sucks because it has so many pre-reqs compared to anything else), but it makes sense. Most unimpacted majors and L&S majors if you’re missing a few classes as long as they aren’t direct pre-requisites for upper div classes you can still graduate in 2 years no problem, engineering basically every class is builds off of your lower division curriculum so you won’t even be able to start your upper div’s for a few quarters and it’s hard enough to get through all of those in 2 years.

If you REALLY want to get out of CC this year you will probably get into UCSD (I did last year with a huge amount of pre-reqs missing), but in the end I didn’t go because my Major Audit said I had 136 units of major work to do and 12 stupid GE units as well and it was going to take forever to graduate. So if UCLA or CAL are your goal as much as it sucks if you don’t get in waiting another year is probably a good idea as you may be able to get out of CC this year, but the circumstances will be far from ideal.

I completely agree with UCeric2010. I’ve said this many times on here, but it’s definitely worth repeating. Pre-req completion is more important than even gpa YES that is true!! However you need to take this in proper context!!!

FOR INSTANCE, by saying this, I don’t necessarily mean that someone missing ONE pre-req and has a 4.0 gpa is going to be less competitive than, say, someone with ALL pre-reqs completed and with a 3.1 gpa.

HOWEVER, I can bet anything, that someone with a 3.75 gpa and ALL pre-reqs completed is DEFINITELY more competitive than someone with a 4.0 gpa and ONE OR TWO pre-reqs missing!!

For Berkeley and UCLA (Especially Engineering and the hard sciences) pre-req completion is the Holy Grail of admissions, because, as UCeric2010 mentioned, it ensures a SMOOTH TRANSITION to upper div. courses, as well as poses less of an “academic risk” if you will, to them.

It would be great to hear from a transfer who actually got into UCLA who didn’t complete all the pre-reqs. Just saying

Here’s a link to both the acceptance/rejection threads from last years applicants to UCLA and Berkeley.

Maybe you’ll be able to find someone admitted w/o finished pre-reqs there. Hope this helps.

Well I wasn’t an impacted major, but I was missing 7 pre reqs…
