Decisions have officially been sent out and I am sure that many people who haven't received invitations want to know if their chances have been completely shot. So, is there anyone who DID NOT receive an invitation and had a pretty purple packet awaiting them in their mailbox?

Appreciate it guys!

Yes...I would like to know this too!

My roomate got in without invites

^^ Aren't you international though?

I don't think you will find many people who have gotten their package who have not received an invite. It seems that this year everybody who is admitted will get an invite. Probably a few have gotten lost in the mail, but if people got packages, they should have gotten an invite first.

However, there are people out there whose decisions have not been finalized yet. (Most were finalized by yesterday according to the NYU forum administrator.) Those people are just being sent their decisions and invites now. They will probably arrive at the same time. So hope is not totally lost. For some programs (my daughter applied to vocal performance at Steinhardt) no one seems to have gotten a decision. Everything will probably be rec'd one way or the other by Monday.

Maybe this is just me trying to hang onto the glimmer of hope that i still have (though, vigorously attempting to get rid of) but have they really sent out these invitesto about 10,000 kids that they decided to accept? If their percentage of acceptance is 29% and there are 40,000 applications not including the ED kids, that means that they have to invite at least a 1/4 of the kids for these events before the letters go out...did they really do that?

I received my admissions letter today, but was accepted to the General Studies Program as opposed to CAS (2 years GSP, switch to CAS junior and senior year). I didn't get an invitation.

Got mail today...no invite and guess what? REJECTED! Honestly I have never been so upset...maybe I have but this is very high on the list!

just out of curiosity, how is the reject letter worded? I'm preparing myself because I haven't heard back yet

Only a small portion of accepted students get the invite...it's because there's no room for everyone to attend. Last year I didn't get the invite to Saturday in the Square and got my acceptance letter March 31.

Trust me, if you love the school, reading a portion of the rejection letter is not going to condition you...actually there is very little that will...

But here you go:

Dear (name),

The Committee on Undergraduate Admissions has completed its review of applicants to the class of 2012 at New York University. The Committee carefully considered the credentials provided in support of your application, and it is with regret that I must inform you that we are unable to offer you admission

That's pretty much the paragraph i read before i left it on my dining room table...good luck to everyone though!
