Anyone accepted yet?

Would anyone who has been accepted to the Park School be willing to post stats and say what academic area you applied for? I’m particulary interested in anyone who put the Film program as first choice.

My daughter was accepted to Park School. Was accepted into the honors program. She is also a finalist for Park Scholarship.
Journalism.
ACT 29
UNW GPA 3.99

i just got into the park school for integrated marketing communications with a $5000 scholarship! my sats were an 1860 and my UW gpa is a 3.76. i was also very active in high school, held numerous leadership positions, was in the national honor society and italian national honor society, and had over 200 hours of community service. so i think that helped too lol.

3daughters, based on your Ds stats, i don’t know why she WOULDN’T be accepted. But don’t lose faith, I’m a freshmen at IC right now and I remember people being accepted through March. They do it on a rolling admissions basis.
And yeah, the envelope is a big one and says something big is about to happen. Inside is a folder with your acceptance, financial aid (merit based) and information on what to do now.

Well March is almost over and my D still has not heard from Ithaca. Do you know how late they send their decisions out? Ithaca would still be in the running if she got in. By the time we receive this letter, either way, she does not have too much time to decide.

I actually know that this coming week is the last week that acceptances will be sent out. So they are still going out!

KSP791, I called Ithaca yesterday and they said that they will send things out through the 15th. So does that mean that they are sending rejections and acceptances at different times? And if I don’t hear back by next week I should expect a rejection?

Our son has taken multi-media for three years, worked for our local t.v. station, has been employed as a videographer the past two summers. He is a good student, consistently on the honor roll as well as a 3 sport athlete. We visited Park School and he really was impressed. He got accepted into Ithaca but not into the Park School. We all were really disappointed! The admissions office told us that it has nothing to do with experience but only GPA and SAT scores. Yikes! Their reasoning is that it isn’t fair to kids whose high schools don’t offer those courses. Intelligent kids, at the top of their class aren’t necessarily guaranteed to be adept at communications. Doesn’t that give a unfair start to kids that know media is an area that they enjoy and have excelled at in high school? In a fair and equitable college environment any accepted student should have opportunities to explore communications (or any field) of their choosing.

abenakee: You need to understand that it is first a learning institution. All of their applicants should have the GPA/SAT scores/Academics before focusing on criteria. The Park School is known to have the top students within the school and some of the highest GPAs. You son can still go to Ithaca and transfer into to the program.

Unfortunately, admissions told us that there was no guarantee that he could transfer into Park because it is highly competitive. I don’t agree that Park should only accept students based on SAT/GPA scores alone. I think experience and creativity should factor highly into their decisions as well. To be accepted into a school but be denied the area that interests you the most doesn’t seem right.

“I don’t agree that Park should only accept students based on SAT/GPA scores alone. I think experience and creativity should factor highly into their decisions as well.” Abenakee- Regarding above. As far as I can see Park does not accept students on GPA alone. It is a combination of everything…talents/ GPA/ leadership. My daughter was one of the lucky ones to be chosen as a Park Scholar. Her portfioio of writing and leadership experience were key. She did have a high GPA as well. This entire process (application to colleges in general) is somewhat of a mystery to me. Some schools (such as Art schools) focus more on the talents. ( I am a product of a college for the arts). I’m sure your son will find his place. I do know that the Film major at Ithaca is very competitive.

You also need to realize, abenakee, that not everyone has the experience your son has. I was accepted into Television-Radio with no experience. I did, however, write a great essay about Conan O’Brien and why I wanted to go into the television industry. I also hold leadership positions in and outside of school.

Thanks for your replies. I can appreciate what you have to say. Congratulations on both your daughter and the other Park student who posted a message.
