It's pretty annoying going to the what are my chances thread and seeing someone write like: 800M, 780CR, 800W, 4.25 GPA, and a ton of extracurricular activities, and then go like i know my GPA is pretty low and that 780 in CR sucks but do i have a chance to get into cornell/yale, because i think my stats suck. My view on this is just to get some self attention or something..I mean they know that they have a very good chance of getting accepted, yet they keep asking other people if they have a chance at all these schools. I dont know, that just bothers the HELL out of me, I mean when i get a 750 in something, I would be pretty self satisfied, others cry for hours even though they know thats really up there. Someone mind telling me what the hell is the point of posting these pointless threads..and if you agree with me that its annoying as hell?

You'll understand in Dec. and April when tons of the high scorers are rejected. There's just too many of them wanting the same few colleges.

I agree also. It's not all about test scores.
Whenever you see someone post something like a 700 people are like OMGZZZ THAT'S HORRIBLE.
Which is completely ridiculous.
As long as you're over the college's threshold, you should be fine.
It's more of a base to weed out weak applicants, but after you see if the score is within the appropriate range, it all depends on the other factors.

thank you.....

I've felt discouraged by all these academic all-stars. The ones who are applying to Harvard, Yale, MIT and other top ten level schools may have a legitemate concern over "chances", but people need to chill.

Its the orderline students with A-/B+ GPAs and a 1900-2000 SATs that need be concerned with top college acceptance.

Yeah even for Ivies, As with a few Bs is fine.
And anything above a 2200 is excellent.

Don't get me wrong, you'll also see the vast majority of those with average stats for the school rejected too. First you need the stats, then the ECs.

yeah, they are annoying
