lol visionquest09, yeah i’ve been wondering that too. Oh yeah, and I agree, Princeton sounds the best to me. I heard somewhere that Princeton was originally named Newark University until it moved to Princeton, NJ. I don’t know if that is true, but if it is, thank goodness that it was changed.

What about the mascots?
Tiger is the best!

Well maybe the Swarthmore Phoenix…

@ mustafah lol. you should have put /sarcasm so everyone realized it D:

when princeton was founded it was called the college of new jersey im pretty sure (useless ap us knowledge!)

and that definitely is not very elite… i think its only been princeton for about a hundred years

“It sounds like a school for hillbillies”
says the kid with the name hookem

Yea, it was the College of New Jersey first…then it changed and Trenton State took that name…

and I think Cambridge or Oxford have the most elite-sounding names…or maybe that’s because I imagine them being said with a British accent and my horrible Americanization associates that with snobbery. Don’t judge.

@setzer: tongue-in-cheek How can we be expected to refrain from judging when you just made a judgment yourself? :-)

@visionquest: We do occasionally say Pton or Ptown but it’s kinda rare. Sometimes the term Tigertown is used at athletic events.

Yeah, Princeton has a nice ring to it. So does Dartmouth. And even Cornell…you just separate the syllables into Cor—nell and make it sound British. Heck, you could probably take almost any school and make it sound better with a British accent. ;)

@ray: that was the idea ;)

I was just thinking…British or English accent? I’ve heard both, but I always say “British”

Interesting comments and observations, but the best name in the ranks is the one left unsaid, but found out- Princeton. Say UPenn, Brown, or whatever all you want, but not saying you went to Princeton is worth more.

“Swarthmore” - now there’s a mouthful - wouldn’t wanna face them on a football field

Duke! Duke!

Duke is by far the most elite sounding college name… Princeton is second.

This is what each school name brings to mind for MEH:
Duke - sweaty old man wearing a wife-beater. Do not ask.
Harvard - young Puritan
Princeton - elitism
Dartmouth - Nate Archibald -> Vanderbilt family -> elitism
Yale - navy blazers -> elitism
Brown - yuck. Never liked that color
Columbia - sportswear
Penn - writing utensil
Cornell - ________________
Stanford - a brand of notebooks or something

Yup, Princeton, Yale, and Dartmouth win the “most elite sounding” competition in my mind. Good thing? Maybe. Bad thing? Probably.

Nah. A prince is higher up than a duke haha so Princeton is definitely more elite.

No one has mentioned Oxford…I think Oxford and Cambridge are two of the most distinguished names. just my honest opinion

^ I agree. Anything British-sounding is automatically awesome and prestigious. I happen to think Princeton sounds the most British, and therefore the most elite :)

Princeton and Harvard I think are tied. Princeton has the most “elite” sounding name, but Harvard has the most “elitIST” sounding name.

For example, just say “Hahvahd” (Boston accent) like you enjoy bragging that you went there. Just read this, which I find hilarious, you get the idea: [Harvard University - Uncyclopedia, the content-free encyclopedia](http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Harvard)

^ Right, so Princeton is better, because it doesn’t sound like you’re bragging necessarily. It just sounds like you went to a beastly school :D

@rabar789

funny link, i laughed the whole time
