Anyone appealed for Fall Quarter 09'?

Yeah I plan on calling them, just wanted to know if anyone knew ahead of time.

Orientation is just… icebreakers, introductions, meeting new people, and academic advising (they tell you about requirements you need to fulfill before graduation and other specifics in your major). They also guide you when you sign up for classes. They’re telling you that orientation is mandatory, but it’s just “highly suggested”

Housing- you should call the housing department
housing.uci.edu–
Housing spaces available - Undergrad and Graduate communities.
Call (949) 824-6811 for
more information.

UC Writing Test
"You must complete the Entry Level Requirement before the beginning of your fourth quarter at UCI and before taking courses to satisfy the UCI lower-division breadth requirement in Writing (Category I). "
I’m not 100% sure about this, but I think if you missed the test, you can take a class and if you pass that class, you satisfy the UC entry level writing requirement

Financial Aid-- call the financial aid office? I was denied FA soo… I don’t know

signing up for classes will be kind of… =\ because a lot of the popular classes with the favorable times will be full. you can look up the classes on the Schedule of Classes
[Schedule of Classes](Schedule of Classes)

btw, it is possible to get in a class if you’re waitlisted, just show up to class the first day with your add card and talk to the professor

you can probably work it out somehow, but its not guaranteed that you’ll get all the money back… >< For me, when I got accepted through appeal in early july, I had already gone to orientation for UCSB, signed up for classes, paid for housing contract, SIR, etc. What I did first was that I sent my SIR to UCI, then I cancelled my SIR for UCSB… for me, I since I cancelled the housing contract, I had to pay cancellation fees, and I also had to pay to get my AP scores sent to UCI. Also – I had to resend my transcripts, etc. It was a lot of work and caused some stress, but if you truly have the patience and stuff… then go for it. Just keep in mind that school starts in less than 3 weeks ><

yeaah ive been waitin to call them about everythin tmrw as well.

sachiko you were denied FA and you got in beg of july?? im kinda scared now since i really need the money to go for irvine…

good luck to all of you guys who got in through appeal. lets keep each other updated about how it goes, it might come to help

I already SIRed to UCR but now, I SIRed to UCI. How do I cancel my SIR to UCR?

@ admonishme I’m in the same position as you are. Did you pay for UCR yet? I’m trying to figure out how to get a refund on housing/tutition.

Does anyone know if classes are still available? I mean if they’re letting us in right now they should have some classes available right?

xcrunner1478-
I was never eligible for FA in the first place :\ (I applied for FASFA but apparently my parents’ income was “too high” or w/e -.- and with the economy now, I guess they’re only giving aid to those who are super-needy)

admonishme & littlehiphopgirl –

I just googled “cancel SIR UCR” and got:

[Registrar - Withdrawal Cancellation](http://registrar.ucr.edu/QuickLinks/Withdrawal+Cancellation.htm)

Cancellation of Registration
Students who register (pay fees) and later find they are unable to attend UCR may cancel registration prior to the first day of classes and receive a refund of fees by addressing a letter to the Office of the Registrar, 2249 Student Services Building, Riverside, CA 92521-0118. Letters can be turned in person to the Highlander One Stop Shop (HOSS) on the first floor of the Student Services Building. Fees eligible for refund are the registration fee, educational fee, and UCR campus-based fees listed in the schedule. The service charge is $10 for cancellation.

For new undergraduate students, the Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) fee is not refunded. Beginning the first day of instruction, students who find they are unable to attend UCR must formally withdraw from the university.

Yes, I paid for the housing, etc… I don’t know what to do. I need to cancel my SIR to UCR and also try to get a refund…

and also, I’m worried about whether or not there will be classes open. :</p>

if you’re worried about classes, try calling the academic advisors for your major? Orrr. look up the classes and see which ones are still open. keep in mind that the first 2 years of school = taking GEs and some major requirements. so maybe look for GEs to take during fall quarter (if you’re planning to go to uci)

oh and about the housing application: I applied for housing but it didn’t even ask me which resident hall I wanted to live in. What do I do?

admonishme, when did you apply for housing??

It could be because the majority of UCI students already received their housing assignments. If thats the case, you will probably end up in a random dorm that is vacant?

Yes I did. It was very short though. All it said was to click which quarter and stuff. Then to pay the $20. but so far, I haven’t gotten any housing offers. :[ did you apply yet?

I applied a while ago… and I already got my housing assignment. It should be different if you got in through appeal, but I’m sure arrangements will be made…

@ admonishme does that mean you SIRed to UCI already? I’m going to call tomorrow morning to ask about classes/dorms. If they’re granting our appeals right now then there has to be something available for us.

Also, I got an exactly 3.0 weighted gpa my senior year and I hope UCI is ok with that although when I appealed and sent in my transcripts I got a 3.0 first semester already. I guess I’ll sir to UCI, send in my transcripts and if everything goes through then I’ll get a refund from UCR.

Btw what are your guys’ major (for those who got in with an appeal recently?) Just curious. I’m a bio major.

Oh and do we have to take math placement tests?

^ yes to math placement test if you didn’t pass ap calc test.

oo thanks sachiko.

hiphopgirl - im a bio major as well but i plan on changin that later on. i’m still gonna b premed tho.

did you guys already SIR? i wanna see if i still can get into some classes, get FA, and housin first, ill call all about that tmrw morning

I just got an e-mail from UCI regarding Financial Aid.
I got $6,850 is gift aid.
Is that good? I have nothing to compare it to.
I’m paying $17,999.
Is that $17,999 for the complete 09-10 year?

Yeah, that should cover tuition and housing if you’re from California. If you’re out of state, that’s probably just tuition.

Ok so I just called pretty much all the departments I needed and found everything I needed out.
Housing: It is available and it is still likely to get into Mesa Court (the better one, in my opinion)
Testing: If anyone’s like me and didn’t take the mandatory writing test, the next test date is Sept. 22nd so you can take it then
Classes and Orientation: Because we were accepted over the weekend, we are not in the system yet, so we cannot enroll for classes and they don’t know what they’re going to do about orientation (apparently it’s more than just having a good time with new people)
Financial Aid: I onno about you, but I got an e-mail about it last night.

I just called housing and they said there is still housing left. I called to ask about classes and some lady was really mean and told me she wouldn’t suggest I go from UCR to UCI right now … then I called the bio dept and they said there’s a few spaces left in Bio 93 but Chem 1a is all full. They said they will contact us when they figure things out … for those who were accepted through appeal on Saturday.

If I SIR to UCI right now will UCR find out? Because I want to make sure I get housing and classes before I withdraw from UCR.
