Lori, I am not sure I understand your point about CMU. Yes, CMU is smaller than Michigan, but Michigan’s Architecture program is tiny. I believe 200 undergraduate students. I am pretty sure CMU’s Architecture program is larger than Michigan’s. And I have visited CMU’s campus. It is nice to be sure, but it does not compare to Michigan’s. Same goes for USC. When you factor in difference in cost of attendance, Michigan makes a lot more sense than USC or CMU.

Rice and Cornell are awesome though, so those two do make sense.

Also, keep in mind that Michigan is building a brand new, state-of-the-art, facilty to house its school of Architecture.

Alexandre CMU is known for good undergrad architecture. Mich is known for non-existent undergrad arch.

my problem with umich is that it’s preferred admit, so soph year, i would have to apply for their arch school, what if i don’t get in? a girl that works with me at the arch firm i work at, went to umich and didn’t get into their arch, so now she has a useless drafting degree and can’t get registered as an architect. then i would pretty much have screwed 2 years of my life.. and it’s a Masters in 6 years if i do get in. Or pull it off at cornell/carnegie get a BARCH in 5 years add 1 year and also have a masters in arch.. much better to me

that and 2 cousins and my sister are currently fresh and soph there.. UMICH is big in the family, and i’ve always liked to be the different one :-/

i’m instate and i have 4000 from the MME, but if my parents are willing to pay the 46,000 for cornell, they can pay for USC and CMU

in my personal opinion, CMU has a better campus than MICH, but those UMICH football tickets are looking pretty good…

lori: Mich over USC, believe me, i live with SCers every day, some of my friends go there, i’ve stayed in the dorms, been to the games, etc. LA is nice, if you like smog and 3 hours worth of traffic just to get to the grocery store (I love CA as a state, but LA jst isnt what people make it out to be, though certain parts, like Huntington Beach, Orange County, etc. are awesome). But the people at SC are stuck up, arrogant brats, they’re known in SoCal as “the beautiful people, the university of spoiled children, ken and barbie U”, the list goes on. i sincerely advise you to visit before you decide to attend, it gets you great connections, but is often criticized bc it fails to attach a real-world approach to much of what it teaches. good luck!

^^ i know what you mean by visiting, if i get in, i’ll visit. but hate having to defend myself. my parents want me to go to MICH, but to me, its not worth a useless degree.

USC over MICH because of architecture, done-ski
