Pretty simple online application, that grants $1000 to 2 students within a range of 50 miles from a Best Buy. I gave it a shot because I live in Hawaii and doubt many people are going to be doing it. (plus Oahu is small enough that I am within range of 2 Best Buys thus I have an even better shot.

I applied, but i doubt i am gonna get it tho. I like how simple the application was

i applied, but i agree...the non-essay format means there are going to be a TON of apps...hopefully my ECs and service stand out for me!

I did, but there are different scholarships for different stores.. meaning that a ton of people are going to win.

Good thing is that I listed a ton of ECs and I hope that helps me out a bit.

I applied for that too. I like scholarships that don't require essays. (: Although that means they'll be harder to get.

I won't, because I have no community service..

I applied, but since there is no Best Buy within 50 miles I had to do the second option so who knows....

My son was one of last year's Best Buy Scholarship winners. He had a variety of school activities (academic, sports, fine arts) and a fair amount of community service. Good luck to all of this year's applicants!

I just applied...I don't have too much community service...only around 250 hours for my whole high school career...ah!, but maybe they'll see something?

oh well, it was pretty easy.

I just applied too, but I'm kinda afraid that they'll doubt my amount of community service hours. A lot of my volunteer service was like once a month or twice a week, etc. So I estimated and tried to round down, but still ended up with about 500 hours. Oh well...they can call if they don't believe me. :)

Does anyone know what aspect of applicants they look more at? (i.e. academics and scores, or community service, or leadership activities, etc.)

I applied too! The no-essay format was pretty nice. I guess we'll be hearing in mid-March then!

Do they give a specific date for notification or just "mid-March" (I hate it when colleges/scholarships do that!)?

any other applications like these?

I applied too. I feel kinda stupid right now cuz I can't remember if I was supposed to mail them a transcript and copy of SAT scores. Can anyone help me?

nope, not at this stage. If you are a finalist, I believe you send that stuff then.

I applied. I remember I was like half-asleep filling it out (it was really late) but hopefully not a lot of people applied for it... We DO have a lot of people around here though.. oh well. crosses fingers

Thanks to the original poster, about 800 more people now know about this. :)

Well it depends on where they live... so you never know =/
