Anyone Apply to BA-DDS Program?

Did anyone apply to the BA DDS 7 year program at NYU? I did, but couldn't find anyone interested or any other thread discussing this...

Anyone at all? There's bound to be someone. Come on, let's meet our future dentists at NYU!

hey i did!!! I indicated BA-DDS program in the major section of the NYU app. But i have no idea if i got into the 7-yr program or juz the pre-dentistry major. it says PPDN on my acceptance letter tho but i dont kn wt it means.

Hmm, that's what I put in too on my application. But I applied RD and don't even know what's going on...

hey i applied for the BA-DDS for NYU as well

but i havent heard anything back yet. do you know if we get interviews at all? or do we just wait until april 1st?

No interviews. Supposed to hear back by April 1st. I honestly dont think I'll get in... :(

eh dont worry. its a tough program, but you shouldn't doubt yourself.

Well, I'm not doubting myself, I'm just trying to be realistic so that I won't be too disappointed if I don't get into the program.

Do you or anyone know how many applicants there are for this program?

eh im not too sure but i think its only around 10-15 students.

(and thats how many make it in)

so by 10-15 students you are saying it's the number of people who actually make it into this program as oppose to the total number of applicants who apply for this program?

yeah. its on the site. they say they only take roughly 10 students a year into the program. I'm not too sure how many actually apply.

With official acceptance letters coming out, has anyone gotten into this program?

Well... I got my big fat envelope today to find out that I got in to the BA/DDS program! According to their website, they only choose 10 people for this program.

Unfortunately, with only 4400 in scholarships a year, I seriously cannot afford to attend NYU. Hopefully the 11th person on the list will be accepted when I tell them I'm not attending...

What do you guys think? Great undergrad and grad program in only 7 years. Great city too. Loved it when I visited.

jon62690, what does it say on the "major" section of your acceptance letter? it says PPDN on mine and I was wondering what it means.

It doesn't state my major. It simply says:

"Congratualtions! I am very pleased to inform you that you have been accepted for admission to the BA/DDS Program in the College of Arts and Science of New York University for Fall 2008"

My major is by default Biology BA.

Hey! Yeah I got accepted too! Do you think you're going to do it? I'm thinking of visiting this week to see exactly what I'm getting into.... have you visited..

Congrats!

I did visit, and NYU looks even nicer in person. NYU dental school also looks good with up-to-date facilities and resources. However, NYU is one of the most expensive dental schools to attend. At nearly $90,000 (tuition, tools, cost of attending) for the first year of dental school, I don't think I can afford it. Coming out of the BA/DDS program will put me in too much debt - debt that I don't want especially when I have to take out more money when opening an office in the future (and starting a family and buying a home).

oh pooo! :( well i'm visiting tomorrow and i really don't know what to expect because i'm not sure whether i'll like the whole city thing cause i've been raised in the suburbs all my life...but more importantly i'm going to see whether this is a good program... it helps to hear your opinion so thank youuuuu :)

No problem! I was also raised in the suburbs of a large city, and well, the only difference I found was that everything was conveniently located all in one area, and everything is built vertically.

As for the program, I thought it was great. The dental class is exceptionally large (I don't know how that will impact education in the long run). But be sure to do this on your own - of course, tours are great and all. But I didn't really get to see what a real dorm looked like (as opposed to an upgraded one shown), and I didn't get to see the students in action in class and outside of class. So, I had to go explore on my own (keep the guest badge on you - don't throw it away!) and I found that the education in both NYU and NYU dental school was pretty good. Everyone was at their little human model practicing some fillings. Etc...
