@Izaak21 I’m so bummed for you about not being considered for the one year program! I saw that another person just received the same email on the Spring 2017 transfer thread. You should definitely appeal and at least get some things to transfer. I think it’s a good sign that they asked you if you wanted to be considered for the two year program although 2 years instead of 1 (and paying for that) is a lot. At least it’s not a rejection. It still sucks though. Maybe if they allow some to transfer you could end up going part time year 2 and intern somewhere or something. These things have a way of working out.
Congrats again on settling on an apartment! As far as becoming a NY resident, yes I was able to do that but only after I had lived here a year. I had to prove that to take the continuing education class at the in-state price. You need to figure out how to get your name on the lease of your apartment, get a bill in your name, get a NY driver’s license (super easy actually), and file NY taxes. That may be a little tricky since you are moving in December and most likely won’t be working until next year. You’ll probably have to pay out of state the first year and then in-state the second year. I had to submit all of those things plus my lease (which I think is the main thing) to FIT. If you live in NYC specifically, you fill out different forms than for NY state.
I imagine Parson’s was more lenient since they are a private institution and also carry a much heftier tuition price. If they didn’t accept transfer credits I imagine many people wouldn’t go there. There is certainly still hope and keep me posted! Happy Thanksgiving!
@rcain So far I’m still waiting on my decision and it’s driving me nuts! Yeah, i mean at this point I just care that i get admitted, afterwards I can worry about appealing and such.
I’m very interested in study abroad though , is that something you’re also interested in?
Oh wow, ha I didn’t think that people actually had drivers licenses in NYC. It wasn’t terrifying driving around the city for your driving part?
True you have a point about Parsons ha! Hope you had a fun, safe thanksgiving! I’ll keep you posted when I get any news! Oh by the way did you recently get a email from Financial aid?
@Izaak21 Yes I did! It was about the award information and accepting the offer. I honestly would say if you got that than that is a great sign! I didn’t get that until after I received my letter. I don’t think they would offer you an award if you weren’t accepted. I haven’t driven around NYC but my husband has lol. He always drives us out of the city if we rent a car. It’s not as bad as you would think honestly but we never drive downtown, just in the upper west side. It is super easy to change your license to NY. You don’t have to take a driving test or anything. I’m not interested in studying abroad because I know my husband couldn’t leave his job and I love NYC so much I don’t want to leave. You should totally look into it though! That would be amazing. Keep me posted!
That’s what I was thinking too. The first email i got from Financial Department back in November stated that "This is the only time we will required any documents “until you’re admitted to the school”. I got that email yesterday from financial aid, and I was told my by admissions over the phone that a decision has been made since Monday. I don’t want to get my hopes up too high, it seems as if I might have been accepted.
I will look into that, It would be amazing to study in Italy.
Oh really, that’s very interested to hear. Did you apply for the NYC drivers license right away or did you wait a year?
The DMV website is not as helpful with that ha.
@rcain AHHHH Just wanted to let you know, That I got my acceptance letter today! I got accepted … That’s all that matters and I’m so happy and thrilled!!!
@Izaak21 Ahhh!! So excited for you! I knew you would get in. After hearing your story I just knew. Congratulations! We are on our way:) You really are moving to NYC and going to FIT!!! Cheers and Happy Holidays!
I am out of state and am looking into the online program as well. i can’t get someone on the phone from admissions right now and i have a few questions. Can anyone on here help?
Hi I came across this thread because I am a parent of daughter who will be attending FIT this fall for the 1-year AAS and just looked at course scheduling and cannot believe she will be in class all day everyday. How do they have time to do homework? BTW she is 20 years old and is part of agreement with the University of Delaware so her 2 years there count towards her liberal arts. She does her junior year at FIT then back at UDel for senior year and bachelors. I’m not sure how ppl will do with no fashion class experience. She is an apparel design major so I hope these classes are somewhat easy for her but I’d be interested to hear from someone that has been through the program. I know it’s intensive but I certainly want her to enjoy it as well.
Oh and I forgot to mention thatat admitted students day they said there was about 50 students in the 1-year program. There are 21 colleges in the US that participate in the visiting program so any students from those schools would be in their third year of college.
