under school resources

I’ve been reading the Pomona forum for a few years, and have never heard of anyone getting a likely letter - whether for arts or sports or anything else. So please don’t worry if you don’t receive one!

the other night… i went to be at 12:30 and could NOT fall asleep until 2:30… i had racing mind and kept playing out scenarios about pomona D: getting the big envelope, the small one, BEING THERE. sigh, i’m so nervous.

Tamtastic- that’s been happening to me EVERY SINGLE NIGHT for about two weeks now I just get so anxious/nervous/excited/disappointed all in about five minutes that I never sleep anymore. I keep having scenarios playing out in my head- me running to the mailbox and screaming with joy or me running to the mailbox and falling over crying or me giving a speech to the admissions people, trying to convince them that I belong at Pomona haha. So you’re not alone. sigh

Lol same here. Like during class, for no reason, I suddenly have these visions of the admissions committee gathered around, with my app on the table, and my regional representative admissions officer trying to make a case for me. And of course the mailbox daydreams…

this is bad. crazy. i heard that acceptances arrive by the 13th to west coasters and 14/15 to east coasters/defferals & rejections

after weeks of eyeing this thread, i must chime in and say i’m soo nervous as well! i applied early as a recruited athlete, so hopefully that will help me in admissions : ) except the problem is that it’s D3 so athletics are definitely on the sideline

Oh, lovewater16, I want to ask how that recruiting process worked. Did they call you, or email you telling you that they’ve been “watching” you or something?

At Division 3 schools, the coaches (or at least the coaches I was in contact with) don’t recruit very heavily. I took the first step and contacted the Pomona coach with my stats, to which he responded quite positively and flew me down for a recruiting trip. D3 liberal arts schools, especially Pomona, don’t emphasize athletics to the extent that D1 and 2 schools do and don’t really “scout” prospective athletes. Not sure how much being “tagged” in the application will help with admissions though…

Well that’s still very exciting! Good luck! :)

I tried contacting the women’s lacrosse coach twice, but she never got back to me. wah I wanted to apply as an athlete, but with lacrosse my school doesn’t keep up stats or anything. That and I’ve been out since the beginning of last season because of ankle surgeries. Meh.

Lovewater16- what sport do you play?

i’m a swimmer, as you can probably guess from my username : )

(T-Minus 10 days, everyone!)

ahhaha i didn’t even notice that! i just thought mermaid when i saw your username :)

@lovewater16- since the swim coach is new this year, he may be down playing his influence because he really doesn’t know how successful this year. My son plays water polo at Pomona and also swam last year. I have heard alot from our coach about how hard it can be to get athletes in to either Pomona or Pitzer (since we share a team!). But in general, I think the Pomona admissions folks really try to honor the coaches’ lists where they can. That being said, their expectations are quite high and there really aren’t any concessions made for athletes—being an athlete is just that little hook that pulls you over the wall. You have to climb 98% up the wall yourself! Good luck! Pomona and the Claremont Colleges are a magical place! We have been so thrilled with our son’s experience.

My counselor got a call from the Pomona folks asking for my qrt grades, saying that decisions will be made this week…And since it’s Tuesday, I estimate about half of the decisions will be made already, unless the admissions office works during Saturdays too. I wonder where my app is…

did any applications get disqualified before this point, you think? 'cause i got a request for my quarter grades too but i’m wondering if i made it through any rounds yet…

This is all speculative, but I suppose they would have no need to see the progress reports of people they’ve already rejected. Extra work for them to call up all 250-300 schools, when they could have asked for progress report grades up front.

that makes sense…

gah. i am so tempted to call the admissions office and just say “look I’m no longer sleeping, can you just tell me now?” hahaha that’d be really bad. But still. Tempting. I swear, this whole college admissions thing could very nearly prompt me to trying praying.

@lumiya i don’t that would be the case here. there’s still no way the admissions department would call up every person who is being considered for acceptance. i would assume it’s probably people who are on the fence and maybe need a GPA boost / first-semester-senior-year-work-ethic reassurance check.

just my two-cents…
i didn’t get a progress report request though, so maybe i’m just being hopeful that my name isn’t in the trash pile.

do the progress report grades differ from the quarter grades (if you’re on a semester system)?
