Anyone applying this year?

Where is everyone? Last year there was quite a bit of interest on the Rhodes board at application time. Isn't anyone applying this year? My S visited and liked it very much - he's applying. Anyone else?

My D visited and also liked it very much. She is applying. She flew down in October (we are from MI) and spent the night & next day on campus. The students at Rhodes applied to the same schools she is applying to, so she feels she would fit in well. She likes several schools, though, and she will probably have a tough time deciding when April rolls around!

We were there in Oct., too, for the Open House. S didn't try to do an overnight because we arrived in Memphis pretty late (not too many flights from FL) and flew home less than 24 hours later. He had to miss a day of school to attend. In retrospect, I wish we would have gone up there at a different time so he could have spent the night and not been as rushed. It's so hard trying to plan trips around his school and my work schedule.

My daughter flew to Memphis using frequent flyer points ... it was an odyssey! She had a couple days off school for conferences, so left on Thursday & returned on Friday. Thurs. flight got to Chicago & plane to Memphis had been cancelled. They did NOT tell her ... I found out & told her when she called as she got off flight from Detroit. She was rerouted to St. Louis, THEN to Memphis. Lots of time in airports! On the way back, her flight from Memphis to Chicago was LATE & she had to run to catch the last flight of the evening back to Detroit, which got in at midnight.

Even with all of that, though, she had a great time! They had someone pick her up at airport & someone else drove her back. The girl she stayed with had a sorority meeting that night, so she got to hang with some other people. She liked the way the students interacted. It was a nice, laid-back atmosphere. Students study, but not obsessively. They all volunteer, which is right up her alley.

It's great to stay on campus, if possible, to get a feel for the social life. It's not necessary, though. We toured one school that should have been a perfect fit for my daughter, and she knew right away as we walked around that it wasn't for her at all. I think that they know if it's NOT for them just by visiting! The overnight helps seal the deal.

A friend of mine is applying...

The more he looks at Rhodes, the more drawn he is to it.

I’m from the suburbs of San Francisco and decided I really need to get out of California for four years! I went to visit Vandy but didn't make it to Rhodes; however they are both on my list. I just loved the feel of Tenn., everyone is so friendly and open! I appreciate the feedback you guys gave on your trips to Rhodes; I'll really help decide if I get accepted to both. Out of curiosity, how does Memphis compare to Nashville? I loved Nashville and thought it was a great city to be in.
