Anyone applying to Jacobs University Bremen?

@stevenlyan
Hi! I’m from China, too, and I’ve applied for Jacobs Round 1. Did you receive an interview? I didn’t find anything about an interview on Jacobs’ website…

Hi. I am from Pakistan. I have a low SAT score currently. Got a composite of 1960. But my SAT 2 Scores are high. 800 in M2, and 760 in Phy. I also have pretty amazing school grades. And awesome extra curriculars. I applied in Round 1 too. What are my chances like?

Hey guys,

I am a German student and currently quite puzzled by the fact that so many of you are applying to Jacobs.
Nearly nobody has heard of it around here, mainly because private universities are regarded as a waste of money and exclusively for people who are either too good to be with the common folk or don’t have the greatest academic record. As I have familiarized myself with the American system, I came to notice that this is different in America as well as in many other countries.

I would love to know what inspired to to make such an unusual choice!

Sophie

Sophie-- what inspired me was the fact that I was an exchange student to Germany this summer and have many friends there, but my German is nowhere near fluent. Jacobs teaches their classes almost all in English, so I can be around a lot of people I know and love without failing out of school.

@Stevenlyan Waiting for the admission decision. Did you receive your financial aid package yet?

@SophieIsabel - Students are looking for European universities teaching undergrad courses in English. Needless to say, the ones that do so are amazingly popular with international students specially when they offer good financial aid. Public universities in Germany are “Free” to attend but have German as a language of instruction. Some universities such as University of Duisburg-Essen have a few English based courses but even those have a German language requirement(A2/B1/B2) depending on the course. Are you a school student or university student?

Sorry about replying so late. I am just back from a vacation and was unable to get access to Internet.

I did have an interview. You have to contact with the admission office about the interview. According to the seniors it seems that there would be two, one for the admission and one for the scholarship. I did not receive any news about the latter yet.

I am from Guangdong, you? And good luck to your application!

From my point of view, score is important but isn’t everything. I know another Chinese student applying in ED with a SAT I score of 2000 got admitted (I think there is no much difference between 2000 and 1960), 1960 is okay. So don’t worry too much.

@thunderboltsid

I did!
Scholarship: 15000 euro
FC: 2500 euro
Loans:7000 euro

We are considering if we should take the loans here. The interest rate is 7.75%, a bit higher than I expected.

Thank you!

I am a junior myself, but looking at studying abroad :slight_smile: I never even considered Germany. Although I found out yesterday that Jacobs is the only university here that offers my desired major.
It is quite remarkable of you that you want to study abroad and especially in Germany which is somewhat off the beaten track. I hope it will be rewarding for all of you!

@SophieIsabel Which universities/colleges are you applying to? What’s your desired major?

Planning to apply to @SophieIsabel

Hi~ I’m also a China student. I plan to apply Jacobs this year and now I’m preparing for SAT. I usually worry about my GPA.My high school is the best school of my province and the exams always very difficult.Even the average score is only 50+ of 100.And my ranking isn’t very good…How’s your GPA?And do you think GPA is important?

@EauHan

Hey i have sent an email to you. Received it?

Hey :slight_smile: I’m a student from Bulgaira, and I applied to Jacobs in Round 1… Has anybody who applied in R1 received a reply yet?

@asenova09 I applied R1 too! No, haven’t heard anything. Do we know when we might hear something?

@Mac546 what did you apply for? :slight_smile:
Well after they received all of my application materials, I got an e-mail saying they will inform me about their decision by the end of January… But of course as you can imagine, ever since the beginning of January I’ve been checking my e-mail for their answer at least 5 times a day

@asenova09 I applied to the GEM program. And yes, I check constantly too! I am so nervous. What did you apply to?

@Mac546 I applied to the ISS.
Well hope we both make it then!
